Mountain Biking - Here Is My New Baby - 21.4 lbs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yup. I would not be disappointed to be forced into having to ride that bike.
Specialized sucks!

your road bike is 25.5lbs?
What make/model is it?
OP: is that a GPS mount or a mirror so you can do your hair while you ride?

It says Fuji Finest. It is at least 8 years or so. And my method of weighing wasnt that exact (I balanced it on the rear wheel). And its got low end wheels (Apparently the wheels that came with the bike died and were replaced with low end ones as it was just being used on the trainer). Its also a steel frame that is fairly large. For me the seat is just about all the way down and I'm now 5'9-10". But who cares, I payed like 100 then drooped another 35 for a tune up and a couple of parts.

The bikes themselves aren't bad, but from what I hear, the company has a habit of shafting dealers.

The other big bike store in town is mainly a Spesh dealer and they're thinking about dropping it just because they can't bend to the extremes Spesh sets for non-concept stores.

Apparently they required gigantic order sizes, charged something like $75 a bike for shipping, low priority for warranty support, etc.
Looks nice and quick.
But i think Spez made the fork look SR Suntour-y.

Interesting. I visited a Specialized shop and asked them to weigh a like $8,000 model and with pedals it was 23 pounds. Still fairly light for a bike with mostly proprietary "race day" stuff, but not way south of 22 pounds. For comparison and using the same scale, my $5,500 medium Truth with a 120 mm Fox Fork and a bit longer than stock stroke RP 23, a non-proprietary high-end "trail riding" build, American Classic 350 wheels w/Schwalbe 2.25 Nobby Nic's, and a Gravity Dropper Seatpost weighed 23.9 pounds. The employees commented they were glad there weren't any customers in the shop.
However, my bike didn't make me any faster (Although, I don't feel as beat up after a several hours ride).
Probably the efficiency of the pedal bob that is making him faster. An older 32 pound all mountain bike isn't going to be as efficient as that. I'm sure he had a little happy adrenalin flowing after the big spend too.

Something along the lines of... "I can't believe I just spent that much in a bike."
You could build 14 hospitals in Somalia for that much money.
That'll get the heart racing.

Nice bike!
I am a bit confused as to why this thread contains hints of sarcasm and shots at Specialized. This guy just spent 8 grand on his bike and he's happy!
Browsing through these forums it appears as though having a cheap bike will get you ridiculed. Having a top of the line bike will get you ridiculed as well. Where exactly is the imaginary line in the sands of coolness?
This guy spends 8 grand on a bike and the thread turns in to an essay on why (via 3rd part information) Specialized sucks.
I'm sure if the local shop was selling enough of them, there wouldn't be crazy demands placed on them by Specialized. Typically when a company starts doing this, it's a nice way to remove the shop of their dealer status.

It's been a running joke for a long time that Specialized sucks. I think that some have taken it a little serious. I have a good friend that is a Specialized dealer and he loves the company. Heck, both my bikes have a big S on the headtube. If light racetype bikes are your thing then the OPs ride is the shizzle dog. Peace out.

I hear ya. I don't own, and never have owned a Specialized. I just feel that when someone posts about a new bike (if it's $300 or $8,000), people should say congrats and leave it at that. I know this is a public forum, I just think it's in poor taste when people try to bash what someone has just spent their hard earned money on. :)

+1 what 66 said- it's a running joke. Many on this forum agree that SpecializEd are great bikes. The company's heavy-handed policies regarding dealers are what rate at less than stellar in the opinion of some folks. I would think that very few here would deny that the OP's bike is da bomb for it's intended purpose.
I believe you will also find that forum members here generally are complimentary toward others' choices of bikes. Unless those choices are clearly craptastic or foolishly/ignorantly purchased at big box stores, throw-away pieces of junk that don't qualify as a serviceable bike by any stretch.

I've rarely seen people here ridcule one's 'cheap' bike. This is not the road forum. The line is drawn when a poster wants 'opinions' on their wally world bike. The truth will be told.
I love the new Epics. Not for me though, I heard Specialized sucks.

Sweet Jumpin Moses! When I told you to buy it I didn't think you would. Now you're going to be "that guy" at the start line (kidding). Ride it like you stole it!

Do you also have an S-Works Dodge Viper? ;)

Acutally you couldnt. After you donated the money it would be stolen by local corrupt warlords who would spend it on weapons to intimidate and kill any internal opposition to their rule.
Blah blah blah blah!
I don't really know where that came from, but you're living up the note under your avatar, I guess.

^^ chill Ed! the blah blah thing came from a year and a half ago, you quoted someones whole page of ramblings as Blah Blah, Blah Blah Blah. The smaking the nut's thing was something you just did last week. This Guy know's you better than I do, Ha he's just doing what you do, Why you gotta be like man? He He

I forgot about the blah...was that me?
Yah...I guess I'm the rat *******. It all started with smacking pcad's nutz. That wasn't enough. I developed a taste for the nut-smacking. It moved on to kmart last week. I'm like an animal. When I don't get in my nut-smacking quota...I just get all grumpy like.
Sorry mcoomer, you can smack my nutz and blah, blah all over me whenever you want :thumb:

Trust me, I'm a rat bastahd and then some, but I'm not smacking you in the bag. I'm beating the dead horse "Specialized sucks" theme. If you would like someone to kick you in the bag I know a one-eyed ho' named Yolanda that will do it for $25. Just don't try any funny business on her or her pimp will put the smack down on ya!

I believe I took the gutter-ball approach when I posted the nut-smacker for pcad. I knew when they added the 2 new dead horses that they weren't intended to be nutsmackers...but dang it...we need nut-smackers around here. I haven't been able to get away from that one since. Every time I look at that one I fondly remember smacking pcad's nutz.
The "Specialized Sucks" theme has gone on for a bit long. I don't recall where it came from. Pete, Gastro, or Maelstrom...I can't remember.
Okay...half time show's over.
Back to Sunflower:
I don't recall if I said this already and I'm too lazy to go back and read...but it's a nice bike Sunflower. If I had the coin...I'd get a top end SX or something.
Nuthin' wrong with being "that guy". Just causes jealousy!
I am also curious what you think of the fork and shock on it.

To OP - congrats, hope you like it. I am not going to tell someone how to spend their money.
However, this bike is a dodo and about to be extinct. The modern economy and the US's obsession with excess and consumerism is dying fast. People are starting to question excess and starting to change what is cool. Now saving money is cool, not spending it.
I got the new performance mailer the other day. . . the new Campy record crank is $1000!! The new Dura Ace brifters are $700. Bling ruled and this is the result. More more more.
Those things are going to sit like stale bread in this modern world. Lets see . . . I can get similar performing groups that add a few grams for half that price? Easy choice. It used to be worth the money as you could impress others. Now you will get resentment.
No offense to the OP, but I think things like this are going to start getting a lot of bad reaction from people. I am already seeing it in cars. The other day outside a place downtown Indy there was some high end Porsche 911 and as the guy was getting out for valet some guys where walking buy and one said point blank to the driver - "its a depreciable, what a waste". The doofus driver had no retort at all.
