6 am my alarm is going off.
I pray... no I plan... no, I WILL hit the off button, swing my legs out into the cold air, strap on the running shoes and go for the morning 20 + calisthenics.
My 2009 season begins. Goodbye and farewell 2008... you were a good year and thanks for the memories. And the floor pump.

I start serious training dec 1. But I have been getting up at 5am to make the tue/thur group ride through my "off season". Now I'll be getting up early so I can do intervals before the ride.
Thats the day for me too. According to my coach: "the alarm clock rings. The games are over. The fun is done. It is time to work."
What, you guys actually stop training? How very odd.

I did some "pre" preseason training already... gonna hit it hard tomorrow though... then really step it up after the first of the year.

I start training December 1...and every other day. If you mean for the '09 season? Well sure, but I might warn you that I have had 3 months of base building prior to december 1. I love it when I see you guys playing catch up. :-)

November has definitely been a transition month for me (getting a trainer, daylight savings change, group rides moving to 'winter pace'. I guess I could declare today the first official day of '09 training. It's always hard for me to wrap my brain around the early build phases you CA guys do.
Dr.W, for someone who FTP is priority 1, what kind of base have you been doing, SST?

Due to a set back because of health reasons I'm essentially starting today. It has delayed the start of my season by two weeks, so instead of my first race being the middle of Jan it is now the beginning of Feb. This could all change though depending on how fast I get my fitness back.

started a few weeks ago. Another 3 week block starts today though, so I can take time off again near the holidays since I won't have my bike with me anyway.

I'll be ramping it up slowly. Then come January and I'll start kicking my butt into gear. Right now, however, I want to enjoy the bike and some time off.

Still working on base, I dont even use my HR or Cadence meter yet, just putting in miles. I'll probably start on the 15th, my base levels are pretty good right now (for me at least).
I had a nice build going and got that 3 week chest cold and fever crap that's been going around. I've been in bed every night at 800pm for 3 weeks. I'm "starting" back up tonight with 1 hour of SST as I'm feeling about 85%. We'll see how that goes. My racing won't start until May, so I've got a little while.

That's where I am, as well. Base since about the beginning of Nov.
December 19th is the earliest possible training start for me, since I've got a bunch of school stuff to finish up for graduation. Of course, I'll be visiting my parents for xmas, and though I have good intentions, I don't know that I'll be able to get enough training hours in while I'm there. I can get the bike out there, but I don't know the roads, there are lots of other distractions, etc etc. I'll probably really get started sometime between January 1 and 5, and build from there. Probably a couple months (three week blocks?) of base, then training races and serious FTP work in March, with my first big target, Tour of the Battenkill, in mid-April. It'll be tight, but I seem to be able to build fitness pretty efficiently right now, so I can probably be prepared for doing well in Cat 4 in three months, no problem.

Good Job!
I'm down 20 and got 15 to go. At this point I thought I'd be gut free but there's still a small one there.

I started building base sometime around September, since my season ended really early and I didn't really do that much in it to begin with.
With the holidays, I'm concerned about making sure my weight stays under 160 lbs.
Right now, I'm doing mostly low-cadence, medium/medium-high resistance work.

Raced 'cross last Sunday, and this past week was just some easier, shorter rides (moreso because of the weather than anything else). Next week is much the same, and then I'm building up for spring.

Explain your base 1 period...Why does the progression go week 1, 2, and then to 4? Where did week 3 go?
Edit: Umm...Do you go two weeks on, then one week of Recovery?

I started training for '09 in '06. But yeah, I guess that last time I had more than a day off the bike was mid-November, does that count for beginning a new season?
