Well, I got a great deal on this Fuji bike a little while ago. I basically stripped the bike down, and used the nicer parts on my Dawes. The frame of this bike had black primer over top of the original red acrylic paint. It also had a bit of surface rust. It was just sitting in my garage with a pile of leftover parts, so my friend and I decided to put in some work and make the frame look nice and new. I first used a few applications of paint remover and sanded the good ol' fashioned way for a few hours. Then we used an electric sander and took off the brake line holders on the top tube, and took off all of the surface rust. Then we hit it with a few coats of primer, a few coats of gloss white paint, and a coat of satin clear coat.
This was the frame after a few applications of Aircraft Paint Remover and a few hours of sanding. Notice the decent amount of surface rust on the frame.

i dont understand why the cranks were not taken off , and for gods sake WHY did you dismember the frame ( cutting the cable guides ), i mean really WHY ?
please cut anything off a frame set and turn it into a "DREW" bike .

Why not hurt a bike intentionally?
Peronsally, when I do a conversion I remove as much impractical stuff from a frame as possible. There is no sense in keeping things brazed on a frame when you don't need them, besides they can become dangerous (an example of this would be if you lift braze-ons for a downtube shifter. Those squares can have some nasty sharp edges...my hand has a scar on it from them.). Imagine wrecking and having your leg get gashed with a sharp edge that could have been removed...hurts. Secondly, aesthetically they are not pleasing. If you want a track frame buy a track frame, but if you want a fixed gear that has clean lines and edges then by all means hack away. If you are neat and gentle with the frame you will not damage it when removing such obstacles.

Excellent point. If its chromed it will chip easily and look gnarly. So perhaps there is a reason...but then again who cares too works.

I'll explain; first off it is HIS bike so he can do whatever he wants with it. second is that this is not some super rare Italian collector's bike so for any schwinn, peugeot, craigslist special bike it is Ok to remove whatever the hell the owner wants to do with it. Quit being so critical of what others do to their own property!
To the OP: Great job on the paint job, there's no better memory of mine than that of getting drunk and taking on projects in a big warehouse till late in the morning. :thumb:

To answer some questions:
I did not have a crank puller, so it stayed on. The plastic bags and rubber bands took 10 seconds to put on, and worked the same as if I would have taken the crank off.
Also, the brake line holders were taken off because one was already broken off, leaving a sharp edge. So I grinded that down and realized it looked goofy with the middle one missing. Do not always assume that everyone is trying to be "tarck". Even if I did take them off for aesthetic purposes, there are much bigger things you can make fun of on this site.
chrism32205 - The headset rings will be sanded, I just didn't have time to sand them yet. I was a little excited and decided to put together the bike and snap some pictures. Sanding the headset rings is the least of my worries if I want to ride this bike; I think a chain and handlebars are more of a concern.
soderbiker - About hurting the bike, believe me, I saved this bike. As stated, it had primer OVER TOP of the acrylic paint to begin with. Both the primer and paint were in bad condition, and the bike had surface rust in a few areas.
Yukky - the brake cleaner was good. It goes down great with a nice sirloin.
planyourfate - I did two coats of primer, three coats of paint, and two coats of clear coat.
jdms mvp - I am glad that someone noticed the Braille Integra. My friend who helped me paint the bike is working on it; something is wrong with the tranny at the moment. His one friend Pete is the actual owner of the car.
ersatz - I drink about 95% quality brews (notice the Casca Zilla and Ithaca). However, the other 5% consists of lager. I live about 20 minutes from the brewery, so it has found a place in my heart.
To everyone that commented, good and bad, I appreciate all the feedback. We just did this on a boring Sunday night. Everyone that saw it in person so far has been impressed. I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

you're lucky. I live about 2 horus away from the brewery. I drink a lot of good beers, Top two favorite breweries are Troege (Harrisburg PA) , and Rogue (Newport OR). But Lager (Pottsville PA!)is my favorit and my "old reliable."

do you live in Pottsville? I stay there every other weekend when visiting Hawk Mountain. Nice little city. We took our bikes last time to ride around town, but didn't see another bike. Not even kids. Weird. Any good places to eat I should try? Like pub style?
Sorry to hijack thread. I have that problem.
Nice paint job. Ithaca brew is pretty good. More of a Lancaster Milk Stout kinda guy myself

Meepers- Troegs and Rogue are great breweries. Troegs makes two of my favorite brews, Troeganator and Mad Elf. Some other good brews to check out if you haven't: Victory - V12, Hop Wallop, Hop Devel, Stormking. Dogfish head - Paulo Santo Marron, 60/90/120 minute IPA. Stone - IPA, Arrogant B*stard, Double B*stard.
joetronic, I live fairly close to Pottsville. Hawk Mountain is an awesome place to go hiking, beautiful scenery. The Kutztown Pub is only a half hour or so from Hawk Mountain, and they have great pub style food and even have their own brewery with a few good brews. I would also check out Port Clinton Hotel, which is about 20 minutes at most from Pottsville. Go hungry, because they have the biggest cheesesteaks you will ever find. Lancaster Brewery is pretty good, my sister used to live a few miles from there, so of course I had to sample the brews!

i have had them all. i do a "Beer Club" on Thursday nights. been at it for almost 3 years now, working on my 500 plaque from one bar. and my friends father owns a great bar close by with an incredible beer list. so i kick back a lot of good brews. I dig the Trail Nut Brown from Troegs the best. have you had the Arrogant ******* Oaked? it is suppose to me smoother than the regular *******, but i find it to actually be a little ruff around the edges.

ok, i rarely ever post on here, but i can not bite my tongue when i read crap like this...
what do you care what someone does to their own bike? honestly if i picked up a frame in crap condition - ie rust and chips all over it, faded or oxodized paint, id most likely strip it and repaint it... as i did with my first conversion. i cut the cable guides off, as well as the fender mount holes. and heres why... first of all, does a fixie need cable guides? does it have gears? last time i checked, no, so whats the need for the cable guides? second off, i can see why some would see me cutting my fender mount holes off as kind of silly, but on the same flip of the coin - why would i need fenders if i dont really care if i get splashed by puddles and if my bike frame gets covered in dirt and leaves? ive done it before, and actually riding in the rain with no fenders can be quite fun.
on every forum, in every aspect, there will be someone that does or does not like what you do to your car... its just like in vw tuning, all the guys that roll bbs wheels on their mk2's are considered "cookie cutters." honestly i dont care anymore if a person bad talks my personal taste or style, because thats what makes me different from the next guy, and if it makes me happy as a person then thats all that matters.
i think the bike looks fine, its a fixie, not a ferrari, and its far from a show car... i stopped caring about how neat my paint was a long time ago... the top tube pad went within a week of building it, and i began to ride my bike as it was intended, and not because of what other people thought... i have fun on it, and thats all that really matters in the end.

come one up to scranton! i will show you around the good bars! we have a new "Ale House," that if you make your way up here stay away from it. it is no where near what an ale house should be. there are only about 8 beers on tap, the best being Sam Adams Winter warmer, then Lager, then goes into your crap beers, Miller, Coors, Bud (you know, beers an ale house should not have on tap, maybe bottle for those who need to drink their beer with a nipple). oh they may have Amstel light, but that is crap to.
Looks like my first conversion. The white looks great, good job. I support removing braze ons too

BaronDapcher - that looks sick! I would have tried something a little cooler if I planned on keeping the frame. Unfortunately, this frame is a bit too big for me and I will be selling it.
Aries - thanks man. The braze ons look much better off the bike, since it will not have a rear brake.
planyourfate - Erie is on the other side of the state from me, but I will keep it in mind. 8.5%+ are always fun. 15%+ are even more fun :)
Meepers - I think Scranton is a must in the future. It is horrible to hear about the Ale House being so bad. I hope they have the new American Ale there, hahaha. We have a very nice bar in Reading called Canal Street. They have 25 beers on tap and 55 bottles/bombers. All good stuff, and they always switch up what beers they have on tap. I think they have Amstel Light and Lager bottles, but aside from that, all quality. Tuesdays are $2.50 drafts all day. Nothing beats Mad Elf, Big Daddy IPA, Heavy Seas Hang Ten, Arrogant *******, etc. etc. for that cheap.

Coopers, my thursday night beer club, has a great selection, 20-24 revolving beers. some change weekly. and others depend on popularity. plug a 4 page bottle list. so there are probably over 150 bottles. that i the best place. second bet is Billy B's. my friends dad owns it and it is a great place to eat and drink. 10 revolving beers, plug, hmmmm at least 50 bottles, some times more. then by old reliable, The Bog. it has changed a lot, it use to me a nice pub with 3 beers on tap, Guinness, Lager, and PBR, now 20 taps. their bottle list has always been ok. probably about 25 or so. they ripped out most of the pup feel, but the owner, Brian, is a really nice guy. open mic every monday and a lot of different bands play there. and usually art hanging on the walls.
