The brake levers and shifters are all one. You push the levers in and they shift, also the small little paddle looking lever behind the brake lever is a shifter also.

I wasn't terribly pleased with the comfort of the Madone so I eased up on the geometry a bit:

I was, I just have a sense of humor not easily understood. I can't even really explain it sometimes.

No. Actually those are Shimano's top secret new "mind control" shifters. Lance will be riding them in the TDF.

: )No, they're not. They're standard STI's. I saw & tried those MC shift control at Interbike last fall in Vegas. At first I thought it was some sort of marketing joke by Shimano. I guess it takes a little getting used to but they were a blast. Hope they were able to improve on the sensor wire placement. Amazingly, the derailleurs 'knew' which way I wanted to shift. USPS and Telecom are the two current teams set up with this system so far... I'm sure they got all the glitches worked out by now. You don't want to experiment with new technology at the TDF.

Mind control brifters would eliminate the need for those bystander-prone mechanical protrusions that proved so troublesome for Lance in last year's TdF. ;)

Same here.

On my last ride I stopped to make a few adjustments and a girl pulled up along side of me and asked me how to shift the road bike she was test riding. She figured out the little black levers, but didnt know the whole lever itself moved as well.

Whenever someone asks me that question, I tell them that it's technology borrowed from city busses and that you're supposed to tug on the cables. :D

BUT what do you do if your cables run inside the tubes...I guess you have a fancy Single Speed then. :D LOL

How about saying that you need to turn the steering until the gear changes .. it should eventually work ..just need to find the proper curve ..

:D Ditto. Then I somehow found out how to shift up, but pushing the brake lever aside didn't come to mind then (Shimano 105 RD). Fortunately it was a flat city ride (crap for test riding, but little did I know), so no climbs to master. Getting the 53-12 going at a traffic light was not particularly confidence-inspiring.

Well now... I'm glad Lance wasn't riding that manually shifting bike during the final climb in last year's TdF stage 15. As it was, that knock against the toptube looked painful enough.
