Short for Velocipede
Velocipede: an early bicycle propelled by pushing the feet along the ground while straddling the vehicle---any of several early bicycles with the pedals fastened to the front wheel

From the latin Velox - swift.

Also the member name of a female track racer known to frequent bike forums.
A shortening of Velocipedio's username.
