Thanks ,

I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying it from you. I would love to come and check it myself but I just got married and am presently on an honeymoon trip to Hawaii with my wife .. Please do withdraw ,with immediate effect, the advert from Web as i don't mind adding $50 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated. I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which my secretary will mail across to you. I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of my mover. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has been cashed. Please I will need both your full name and physical address along with you phone number to issue out the payment.

I await your urgent response

I thought it sounded pretty good. Why would they want my bike anyways?....hrmmm

Why doesn't the mover just pay in cash when they pick up your bike?

if you are concerned about giving them your address why not ask them to mail the check to your bank?

I really like how he refers to it as "the item" so he doesn't have to rewrite it for any item scammed.

NO!! The check is not good. It won't be found out till way after he's picked up the bike.

Tell them that you're sorry, but you can't release "the merchandise" until the check clears. You won't get a reply.

this is getting so common. if you do respond just say cash or western union. of course they will not get back to you. hell they are too lazy to even include what they are scamming for.
wonder how many things they do get though?

If a real person was arranged to show up to make off with the "merchandise", that would be awesome. You or I could do that. It would be too dangerous for fuzzy.

Let's see, dumpster dive for a BMX bike... can we fill the frame with cement? Cut some spokes, maybe?

See how this guy did it (http://www.easynetworknyc.com/powerbook/)...

Can you send me a screen shot of this? I'll relay it to the webmaster. You can do it by email. tom(at)bikeforums(dot)net

You might also want to do a spyware check, since we don't do ads like that. It's very possible you've picked up a little bit of malware....easy to have happen no matter how careful you are.

Tell him that you will send him the item first because it is taking up space in your garage and you need room. Explain that because he's been so upfront and honest with you, you feel a great deal of trust and you know he will send you the check upon receipt of the item. Ask him to please forward his address ugently because are willing to pack it up safely and send it off to him today. Point out that there have been others that are interested in the item right away but because he's been so pleasant you feel he is worthy of this beloved item.

we just got notice that the college's Spam service provider is down, having issues with it's license I guess and that we should expect a sharp increase in Spam. Received 50 the past hour.

One of them ... from ME! And it's advising that I go to website mehugez.com (I can JUST imagine what that is for!:p). I love it - wonder how many people here got that. :thumb:

I bought a motorcycle off of Craigslist about five weeks ago. The seller was adamant on taking cash only. I thought that was odd, and I mentioned this to the bank teller as I was making the $ 4000 cash withdrawal from Bank of America. She said that was actually pretty common, and most people no longer took certified bank checks. She said that with Photoshop, desktop publishing programs, and a laser printer with safety paper, they are easily counterfeited and sometimes they even fool the banks. The other common scam is the purchaser of the certified check purchases an item, and then immediately calls the bank to claim that the check was lost, and they should cancel it and refund the money used to buy the check.

I learn something every day. I have given and received a number of bank certified checks over the years but perhaps I should no longer do this.

Yep. And the real issue with that one is the bank "clears" the cheque for you, you part with the merchandise, and a month later the bank calls you up and says "Excuse us, but that cheque was a forgery and you're responsible for replacing the funds."

I don't sell anything expensive on CL, but I always demand cash payment. I was attempting to sell a bike a while back, and a scammer hit me up with the "I'm in the process of moving, but my shipper can pick up the bike and give you a bank cheque" routine. Funny how he quit responding when I suggested his "shipper" meet me at a Western Union and have the funds wired to him, and leave my name off the transactions.

I think the worst was the guy who agreed to the sales price in an email, called me to verify a meeting spot to pick everything up, then showed up and asked if $30 below the agreed $70 price was OK (because that's all he showed up with.)

Craigslist has to be cash only nowadays and if large amounts bring a light and a pen to check the money.

Recently here in Dallas, a guy trying to sell his car was set up by the "buyers" and shot to death in front of his girlfriend, all for a few thousand dollars.
