General Cycling Discussion - I Need Sweet Pedals. Suggestions?

whaddup peeps. nub poster here.

i refurbished my dad's old ~1981 univega viva sport road bike. it's pretty sweet; the paint's in great shape. but i need new parts.

i just bought a new chain and seat. i'm thinking about moving onto pedals now. i've had some difficulty finding info on toe clipped/strapped pedals. everyone likes clipless. i don't wanna buy shoes.

questions:

what kind of toe clips fit these? are straps necessary? do these pedals suck? general suggestions?

basically, i just want some good quality pedals that aren't expensive as hell and look nice.

You won't go too far wrong with those. Check out veloorange.com also. Lots of good pedals at good prices. Good people to boot.

Toe clips work with straps. "Mini"-toe clips work without straps and are less effective but easier to use.
Check out PowerGrips, too. No clip, just a strap. No special shoes.

With those pedals, you'll need toe clips (most will fit) and straps. They're kind of narrow, and you'll want the straps to keep your feet centered, particularly if they're big. (I have size 13's, so I'm kind of prejudiced.) Dimension pedals don't suck.

You won't need toe clips with these, but you can put them on if you want. They're my favorite for my get-around-town bike.

Holy crap those new Speedplay Nanogram pedals are expensive.

I run X2 pedals on one of my bikes. They're great pedals.

Google MKS GR-9 pedals. Incredibly comfortable and needs toe-clips. MKS has toe-clips as well. Hunt for a distributor with the best price.
