Mountain Biking - MTB Racing in California ??

Anyone know of a good series or individual mountain bike races in California ?

Two of the best I know of are the Shasta Lemurian (shastalemurian.org) and Downieville Classic (downievilleclassic.com).

Southridge Racing Club has a whole winter series out in Fontana that starts in January.

this series looks cool and is close to where i live. have you raced in this before ? i am interested in the XC races but i dont see any distances for the races. do you happend to know how far they are and how techincal they are ? also, looks like the events have good turn out.

Wednesday night for 12 weeks of riding fun (and beer)!

this series looks cool and is close to where i live. have you raced in this before ? i am interested in the XC races but i dont see any distances for the races. do you happend to know how far they are and how techincal they are ? also, looks like the events have good turn out.Alas, I have not been there. I know of Fontana and SRC because I almost went to a National there and had inquired about and checked out the DH venue as thoroughly as I could from afar (and decided not to go).

Fontana seems to be very popular with the locals and gets a lot of press.

Your best bet for details on the XC would be to contact Donny Jackson at the phone number or e-mail on the contact page. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your questions and help a new person get involved.

Southridge is a fun venue if you live nearby. Can't beat the price for the Winter series. Course runs through an urban area, fairly technical in some spots and possibly tricky depending on how eroded parts of the course are. Nothing crazy though, typical SoCal singletrack/fireroad mix. Distance depends on what category you race.

I just raced Southridge 2 weeks ago. It was fun.

FELT - how long are the XC courses for southridge ?

The Southridge series is fun and local to you and you need not purchase a license, just show up, pay the fees and race.

A new promotional company that will also be holding DH and Super-D races out at Vail Lake is Progressive Cycle Association (http://www.pcamtb.com/) They just held their first races a few weeks ago and as soon as we get a good storm or three thy will build up the area and hold more races.

beginners do 1 lap.
Sport and single speed do 2 laps.
expert and pro do 3 laps.

They also do Super D which I did after the XC race. Pretty fun, I recommend it. 15 minutes of all out fun. If you ever want to come out pm me I would be more than happy to show you the course. So you can train on it before the race.

Thanks for the info. I emailed the race organizer a week ago but they havent emailed back. 6.9 miles sounds doable for me, lol.
What exactly is Super D ? Is that like slalom or just downhill ?

Theres was held as a time trial. But it's basically similar to XC just shorter and less climbing.

XC usually favors the climbers while Super D favors the rest.
