A few months ago an add came up on CL as "mint 80's Torpado road bike-$500." So naturally I went and looked at it. It's a 56cm Torpado Super Strada, and i usually ride 58's so i scrammed pretty quick. I kind of felt him out in the price range and he seemed pretty firm so i didn't even make an offer, but told him that if he would be willing to part it out i would be interested in the parts. I just received an e-mail out of the blue saying he is sick of the bike being around and would take $350 for the bike. So I think more like $300...

I can't find the original add and didn't take pictures of the bike but the thing is mint. I mean not a scratch or rust spot, just perfect to the T. Im guessing my short test ride was the longest its ever been ridden. Everything looked to be stock including the pantographed parts & the only thing odd is i remember the hubs definitely said "record" on them so maybe they had been upgraded.

So assuming the frame is perfect, could I recover my investment by selling the frame and panto'd parts on the bay and keep some goodies for myself (seat post, derailleurs, wheels)? I looked at completed listings but didn't find too much, also searched CL and found one in Hawaii (a member i think) selling his for $720 but that's a strange market.

Also, if someone would really like the bike i could put you in touch with the seller (I have no affiliation with him) and possibly box it up for you.

Here is what i'm looking at: its the Super Strada, the off white one on the right...

At $300 you should be able to part it out and make some money.

It's too big for me, though.
