"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - so much for starting training

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I sat down on something low to put on my tights this morning. I must have done it a bit too abruptly- when I landed, pain shot up and down my back and it locked up. I've pulled muscles in my back before but never something like this.
So instead of doing the group ride I was looking forward to, I am sitting on the couch icing my back and trying to relax while not breathing too deeply. Getting old sucks. I don't recommend it.

Ouch, that does suck. Can't say I feel your pain but I know it would suck if it happened to me.

I hate back pulls. Seems like I get one every 1.5 years or so. Yuck. Good luck with it.

Get better!
I have no excuse. I just slept in the last two days. I really wish I didn't have to get up at 5 AM to work out. I'm not a morning person and I've been tired lately. Oh well. Lunch ride tomorrow and Thursday out of bed I get at 5 AM.
That sucks, are you feeling better today?

It's a bit better today but not good enough for me to ride the trainer let alone the road... maybe tomorrow. This morning my wife reminded me that she's got a stash of Naproxam which I should try instead of Ibuprofin. The times I have pulled a muscle through overuse I have usually made it worse by getting active too soon so I am trying to avoid doing that.
I think the cause was the night before , I was doing some Pilates stuff and my wife, who has gone to actual classes and knows how to do the exercises right, showed me how to do one the right way, which really used my back. I think I strained some muscles just a bit and that triggered the spasm when I jolted my back by sitting down too fast.

Rest, recover, exercise.
I had a similar thing happen to me a couple weeks back. Holding a leaf blower, back seized, both legs went limp, collapsed to ground. Took a bit of time to get going and then it happened twice more by the next morning. All better in a week except for the money (I'm not on a co-pay plan, I'm on a "pay the first $3000, we'll take care of the rest plan", i.e. a disaster plan, not a maintenance plan).
So now I'm doing abdominal stuff again, I can do deadlifts now, and I'll be doing some regular lifting like I used to do to keep my back usable. I had an "episode" about 11 years ago and started my abdominal/core thing back then, and I stopped the routine about a year ago. Bam, bad back. Learned my lesson (again). I'll slack off in 8 or 10 years and have another episode.
