Foo - Is this a selfish present?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Present for the guy:
Snowboard travel bag.
so he can come see me, with his snowboard--
He rented the last time he came out since we only hit the mtns one day. He doesn't have a travel bag (and the cost to check it on the airlines was more than a single day rental). I'm predicting a 99% chance he'll come out and we'll do a long weekend/short week in the mountains.
Is this like buying a vacuum for the wife, or more cool?

Good gift. I would have liked to get a waterski travel bag when I was "attached".
Tell him you are waiting on your holiday bonus

Ok, a few votes. yippee. Now to do some shopping... hope to find one online I can have shipped to MN where I will be for the holidays.
I want one with compartments for boots, so he can check a single item....
if anyone sees a good deal?

yeah I have seen some pretty cool ones with wheels. Due to budgetary restrictions, wheels will probably not be an option.
Hauling it is a good workout anyway :)
It's not selfish. He could use it to travel any number of locales... which happens to include yours. :P

What IS the male equivalent of being gifted a vacuum cleaner?
I'm gonna say ordinary clothes.

I don't see it as any different than when The Girl buys me kitchen stuff (new knives, new cookware, stand mixer... all of these have been gifts in the past.)
Sure, it's something that's going to benefit her because I do most of our cooking; but I like to cook and appreciate all my kitchen toys.
i think it's really sweet...lets him know you want to see him. I'd be stoked if I was that guy and got that gift.:)
in which case you can now call him 'snowboard bag guy'

Selfish? A little, but if he has his own snowboard, but not a carrying bag - it will be welcome and practical. Probably wouldn't be at the very top of his wish list, but definitely not a dud present.

I think that's a great present. He likes snowboarding, you like snowboarding, you like him, you like snowboarding with him. Win-win!
Besides, I haven't heard of too many people bonding over shared vacuum cleaner experiences (well, not ones I'd consider um, really clean).

I say it's a mildly selfish gift, but that's OK.
The real reason I'd consider something else, however, is that I'd really rather pick out my own bike case, and this seems like a similar thing. From a girlfriend, I'd rather be given something I wouldn't buy for myself, like cologne or a gay looking, but actually quite stylish sweater, rather than a toy that I simply haven't gotten around to buying for myself yet.

Tools to fix that leak you've been nagging him to fix forever. Or a vacuum cleaner.

Nope, this does not fall inside the vacuum for wife category. It is pretty cool indeed, go ahead.

I like the idea.
Last year my boyfriend got a tire changer. I think he's changed as many of my tires as he has his own. :D

Good point X. Why not buy him a snowboard that is kept at your place? You don't want his snowboard wandering around to other locales do you? ;)

Plain tighty-whiteys.
PS: I think the snowboard bag is an excellent gift. Ms. MillCreek bought me a snowshoe bag one year. I love it.

Nice choice of a Dakine bag. I love all their stuff and have a couple of their hydration packs for Winter and Summer.
I was going to tell you to check out Rome's bags as I love mine for snowboard gear (it makes a nice general purpose travel case too), but after looking...they don't seem as nice as what they offered a couple years ago.

A teeny weeny bit but what would be selfish and a scary relationship move is a twin snowboard bag so that you can fit your skis in. I think you are in the clear. Besides he can use the bag to go anyplace.

Snoblades are atrocious for boottop fractures. Do not want.

waaahhh split vote. should have made a poll.
good considerations here, folks. we haven't had the "what are we buying for xmas" convo yet anyway... and may well decide to white elephant it, or something. in which case, I'll tell him someone bought me the snowboard bag.. and I obviously cant use it. :innocent:

we had a chance to chat last night for quite awhile- about booking upcoming trips, etc.
I'll be heading there for president's day weekend (I get monday off) and he'll be coming out for a week in feb or march and we'll get a lodge in the mountains for a night or 2. So... he was talking about how to better check is luggage next time, and that it would be handy to have a snowboard bag with boot compartment. HMMM.... maybe that's why I asked how long his board is the other day?
Placed the order this morning. Admittedly, cost a bit more than I'd intended to spend, but its what I wanted to do. Plus, the place I ordered from had a really good deal, free shipping, and free returns. LOVE the holiday online shopping.

If one feels the NEED to buy stuff for X-mas, then practical is the way to go.
Practical does not mean selfish.
