How do you guys avoid this frothy "head" I always get on my smoothies? My typical large "breakfast replacement" smoothie might look something like this:

1 cup skim milk
0.75 cup low fat yogurt
1.25 cup frozen fruit
10 grams protein powder

I use the frozen fruit instead of fresh because it's cheaper, lasts longer if I don't make a smoothie for several days, and I don't have to use ice in my recipe.

Any guesses why I get this not-so-appetizing foam rising to the top of my smoothie?

Eh never had that problem. I usually add liquid ingredients in first, then frozen fruits.

try a gram of olive oil, or mineral oil (extra heavy duty surface foam killer)

Some protein powders are more likely to froth. Try a different brand. Look for one that says it mixes or blends well.

I've never had that problem with my protein powder, but I blend at a low speed for a few seconds and then increase it for about 15 or so.

Try the protien powder as the last thing into the blender. Since its powder, pour in slowly

I tested oil, it takes only 2 drops
