View Full Version : Saddle Recommendation?

My stock seat is a Fizzk Poggio. It's OK, but can be painful on long rides.
Any recommendations? I'm stuck between performance, comfort and weight.
I ride over 100 miles/week.. usually ride a few centuries a year.... and am considering the possibility of a couple races.

Saddles are a very personal thing, perhaps more so than any other bike component.

If you insist on a new saddle, you could give Selle Italia a try. I like their 'Flite' saddle, the classic. Others will undoubtedly draw your attention to Brooks.

goddamn, I hope this doesn't turn into yet ANOTHER brooks thread...

FYI, I ride a specialized body geometry castoff saddle that no one wanted...it was in the bin at the bike shop for 40 bucks or something...anyway...its got mangenese rails! heh...but its is comfortable, I like it. I don't really notice it when I'm riding.

Nothing beats a Selle 'Flight' for me.

Another vote for the Flite. I was using a Terry Fly on my other bike, which was fine for shorter (20 miles) rides, but on anything longer I was left with a bit of numbness. Now using a Flite Trans Am and my rump is much happier:)

SLR 135g for me
they take a little wearing in and are an aquired taste

Since we want to keep this a non-Brooks thread, my second favourite saddle is the Flite. I've ridden the same original Flite saddle for close to ten years. In fact, I had another Flite on my mtb as well for a few years.

Why non-Brooks?......just a hunch on my part. I'm sure some of these people want other saddle suggestions..... for a change....

Yep, me too. Just got mine a little while ago, it looks painful, but it not. :D

All right, me too...I'm a recent brooks convert. I found everything said about brooks to be true, and believe me, I have one sensitive *ss. Now both my mtb and road bike sport a b17 and b17t respectively.

Hey Bike2Ride,
I'd recommend the Brooks Swift with titanium rails. Comfort for the centuries, lightness for those races you're considering. It'll get more comfortable every year for the next 30 years you use it :D .

Another recommendation for the Selle Italia SLR.

I tried 4 other saddles before finding this one. Even though it is super lightweight (compared to the Bricks...I mean, Brooks), it is the most comfortable saddle I've ridden. But, saddles are very personal, and one man's comfort is another man's torture.

Besides going with a Brooks Team Pro, 2 of the best saddles that are tried and tested in the peloton are the Selle Italia Rolls Saddle or San Marco Regal saddle.. They are little more generous than some of the super narrow lightweight saddles but comfort is the key..

I'm riding a Selle Italia XO Trans Am (leather with a cut-out) on my brand new bike. I've done 80 km so far (it was snowing yesterday here in Montreal...) and it's getting more and more comfortable. It looks OK. Anyone has experience with that saddle?

My vote is for the Sella Itallia SLK! I love it!! It is light, comfortable and I have had no complaints with it thus far.

Since I can't say BROOKS team pro, or B17, I will say
Selle San Marco regal.

Selle San Marco Arami GelAround is a very comfy saddle...

Fiz: ik Aliante here. Also, the stock seat on my Lemond (CRZ Road; I think may stand for comfort relief zone) has been good thus far. While I wish it had a slightly more narrow nose, the overall shape is good, and I've had no pain (from the saddle) during rides up to 65 miles. It's not as comfortable to me as the Aliante, but still good and I'm sure a lot cheaper.

The Selle Italia Oktavia Genuine Gel came standard with my bike. I just did a 62-mile ride on Sunday and have to say that my bum felt fine after ... considering the bike is new I had wondered if the saddle would kill me, but no worries. I had been contemplating a Koobi AU Enduro, but I think I'll stick with the Oktavia for a while.

Selle Italia SLR.

Don't let the minimalist design fool you. This really is a comfortable saddle.
