Northern California - Is it too early to start planning the official NorCal New Year's Day Ride???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Let's start 2009 off right! I've always wanted to ride from Oakland to the top of Mt. Diablo (brrrr), but it seems like there have been lots of Diablo rides lately. Maybe a nice century from Berkeley to Davis (http://www.grizzlypeakcyclists.org/cue_sheets/#bbbd) and then a train ride back? Or we could do Alpine Dam? Maybe a ride on the Peninsula? Or a BikeFo overnight trip in Sonoma County (great riding and wine, what's not to love)? Who is interested?

I've been up Diablo on New Year's Day. Suffice it to say, you won't be lonely. :)
Lots of cars, lots of bikes, lots of motorcycles, lots of people. Not unsafe, but busy. It's not exactly a singularly unique idea.

Been there. done that for Mt. Diablo. Well, 45 years ago and in a car. If you want to go up and down hit the Pine Flat road up here in Sonoma County. Eleven miles and 3,000 feet with, just maybe, 2 cars. Newish pavement.
Funny! I did Diablo on Christmas Eve last year with the BikeFo crew and crowds were very light. It was a great ride!
