Foo - Reason #64 I'm buying a house - or what the apt maintenance guy did with our knife

He apparently decided that our bread knife would make a fantastic saw to cut the sheet rock he was putting up in the laundry room. Then left it on the counter, covered in dust, and showing obvious signs of being used to cut something a bit harder than BREAD! This is an almost $50 knife, and while I haven't attempted to wash it as of yet, have a feeling it has permanent markings from sawing through sheet rock.

I think he owes you a new bread knife.

I've had...
spittoons (pop bottles of tobacco slop) left in my apt
my dishtowels used as paint clean-up
and I'm pretty sure my favorite underwear are missing.

ok, kidding about that last one. But, agreed- they are idiots.

When I was a kid, a painter drank out of the fridge (when my mom was out) a glass filled with cola but it was actually an anti-constipation tea my mother was taking at the time. When my mom found the glass empty she asked me if I drank it. Knowing my mother and her concoctions I never drank any liquid I didn't pour out of a bottle myself, I said no. She laughed thinking about what the guy's drive home was like.

I have the underwear. Do you want them back? I used them to clean up after I painted my spitoon in your bathtub while you were at work.

Don't wash. Take pics, send them to the management along with a link to the bread knife and ask when the new one will be arriving.

Cuda, just throw the bread knife at the door of the leasing office.

BTW, Cuda lives NEXT door to the office. The manager could probably see the guy using the bread knife

I've emailed the apartment manager. I'll take photos so I can email them if needed tomorrow. Asked them to contact me regarding this issue, I'll make demands then.

$50 bread knives make the best drywall saws.

You know, if I wanted to be in the dog house with my wife, and I needed to saw through dry wall, of all the knives we own, that bread knife would be about the best one I can think of. It's got very wide serations on it so it nearly looks like a saw.

Man, the first time I read this thread, I thought it was about a butter knife. I just couldn't fathom how someone could find using a butter knife easier than, say, making a sawing motion with their index finger.

But a bread knife? I'm pretty sure I've used a bread knife to cut drywall before. Of course, it was an old bread knife no longer used for bread, and I didn't just pluck it off of someone's counter. What an assbag.

Don't believe any of them. I'm wearing the underwear right now. Unfortunately the bra doesn't really fit, but it [U]looks[U] fabulous!

That is as unprofessional as it is impolite. I've worked with some real choice idiots, but I don't think anyone I've ever worked for or with would do such a thing. That's really absurd.

Cuda, I have always thought your place smells suspiciously of sourdough, but my genteel erudite nature prevented me from saying anything, up to this point.

I think before you complain too much, you should take a bite of the so called "dry wall" they are using. You might be surprised and find out that the repair guy used the most appropriate tool he could find.

After wearing them for a month, I can tell why they were your favorite.

I'm afraid the underwear is much too stretched out to do you much good any more... but I am very fair, I'll send them back and let you decide. You can wash them if you want, but I find that they get more comfortable without it. And people leave me alone too.

People are something else. It's one thing to do something like this but to not even attempt to cover your tracks? I don't get it.

I've never had an issue with maintenance staff using our stuff. They would always bring their own ladder, even when I offered them the use of ours, which was a better ladder.

Oh, gosh - make sure to get a really god home inspector when you get around to picking out a house to buy.... you wouldn't believe what homeowners do their homes!!!

Oh, gosh - make sure to get a really god home inspector when you get around to picking out a house to buy.... you wouldn't believe what homeowners do their homes!!!

Don't rely on just a home inspector though. The first house I bought had two inspections and both were fine. i later found burned eletrical wiring that was patches with tape, splices outside of electrical boxes and a loop as well as things like a license plate used as roofing flashing. Just sold that house and moved and I walked around behind the inspector with my own flashlight and checked things out myself.
