Anyone ever considered doubling up on booties? i was just wondering if anyone did this or has considered it like i have just now. You know, buying a regular sized bootie and then an oversize one to stretch over the regular sized...seems like a good idea to me. Any experiences?

I've never tried it, or felt the need to. If you're talking about neoprene booties, I would imagine that they'd be a real pain to put on.

If your feet are cold, have a look at my article for some suggestions that work for me:

Or what if you already wear XL booties, which BTW are a pain in the ass to put on?

I use an oversock and then put a bootie over the top of that. The sock also lets the bootie go on easier.

I do this when it gets really cold. I have PI amfibs which are usually a pain to get on but I can easily put my nashbar booties on top. Really helped for some centuries last winter.

Tried it once. It was such as hassle to get two pairs on I decided I'd rather risk cold feet.

It would be better to concentrate on insulating inside the bootie. For really cold rides, I add a thin cycling sock under wool socks. That usually gets me down to where everything else hurts too much to ride:rolleyes: For socks, look for old knicker socks (aka over the knee socks) for cross country skiing. If you look in the fishing department of many outdoor shops (Bass Pro, Cabela's, etc.), you can still find them.

One key is to wear a size or two larger shoe in the winter. You want more room for your feet and the extra socks. Additionally, for putting on booties over the shoes using a shoe without too much of a sole helps. I still use recessed cleat shoes but they just don't have much of a lug on the sole. If you are putting a cover over it, the lugs don't do much good anyway;)

I wear LL Bean Snow Sneakers. I bought them a half size bigger so I could add a second pair of socks if needed. If your riding in frigid temps, most of the time the bike-specific stuff isn't going to be any good anyway. IMO. If your riding in winter temps then go with winter clothing, as in ski clothing. SportHill comes to mind.
