Books, Movies, Music & Entertainment - While others may not.. I still miss Kirk..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

And when they "found" a song to release a few months back it was like hearing a ghost.
Here's to you Kirk.. Hope you found something to ease the pain...

Perhaps you mean Kurt Cobain who died on the date of your original post?

Well, I don't miss Kirk at all, but I do think that Kurt Cobain was talented and tragic.

Ha. My booboo. I thought it was a bit of an odd post. (But you gotta admit the Shatner clip was funny).
I never did get on the Nirvana bandwagon. Perhaps someone could explain the appeal.

I was never a huge Nirvana fan either so I can't really say. I like a few songs but I am however quite fond of the Foo Fighters.

Here's my nutsheel attempt at explaining the phenomena that was the popularlity of Kurt Cobain/Nirvana:
Kurt sang from an underlying sadness and desire for empathy in the world. He simultaneously lashed out and was very sensitive. Or rather, he lashed out because he was sensitive to what much of us take for granted or do our darndest to sweep under the carpet. People found themselves attached to this in his music because he never said anything outright and masked most of what he had to say, perhaps even from himself, in a cloud of cryptically-confusing lyrics. Alas, the lyrics did make sense, even if in a very fragmented way with connections that people could make viserally if not through rigorous readings of his songs.
Minus all the English prof crap I spewed above, I think he allowed people to feel, feel many things and including their own sadness for the world that we had come to see developing around us.
For what it's worth:

(The Kirk post was funny).
It's like explaining why you like bikes to people who don't ride them. There's something unsaid.
At a time when I felt there wasn't much good music on the "rock" side (I had and still have a love for electronica except for Oakenfield who I think is a keyboard*****), and at a time in my life when I was.. Living on the edge between choice of lifestyle.. Nirvanna came out with the "Teen spirit song". While Teen spirit was good, the b side "even is his youth" literally spoke to me. Nirvanna seemed to speak to a whole lot of us post reagan teens in a world where the enemey was now undefined, the economy was shaky, the future seemed uncertain and really.. it was a feeling that you didn't want to care.. Nirvanna seemed to embody it.
Honestly, I put Kurt on a level with Jim Morrison, on a lyrics basis.

I liked what Andy Rooney said the day after Curt Cocaine died, "You know you are old when the suicide of someone you have never heard of makes the front page of every newspaper in the country."
Like Andy, I was left wondering what all the fuss was about. Nirvana was no better than average (and in today's music scene 'average' is barely worth listening to). They certainly were not the musical masterminds that some people claim they were.

This would be like asking which bike is best, which beer is best, etc. It's all very subjective. To you, and others, Nirvanna wasn't much of anything. A friend of mine claimed that Nirvanna killed good rock.
*Shrugs*. To each thier own. I respect your opinion. Are there any musical influeances in life that you feel are important such that the loss of that person would affect you in some way?
