I feel like Dorothy in Oz........

I have a Fuji touring bike ss and I tried to put the nokian Hala-whatever 106 studded tires on the bike with fenders.......they are 35X700 tires
The rear wheel is a challenge......
The studs are rubbing against the fender........my fenders are PB 40mm so should be big enough?
my bike shop can get them OK if they use a stand to pull the wheel into place (get enough tension).
I am worried if I flat on the commute that I won't get the wheel back without it rubbing?!?!?!

I have never run fenders before (in almost 20 years of commuting) and NEVER studs........if there were days I needed studded tires I just drove or used my knobby mtn bike with low pressure.......

In addition the Nokian directions say," for the first 50km not to "over do it." WTF????

Reminds me of the old days when doctors advised men after heart attacks about sex to "not over do it." :D What is not over doing it with studs on dry pavement........Are studs supposed to be ridden on ice continuously? Not clear about this. Finally, I have ridden on black ice in the past with knobby tires....they seem to work OK (though stopping can be a problem).......but very little slipping and sliding on ice with the knobbies........

Any thoughts, ideas, help?!!?!?!?!

the first 50km are to seat the studs and also sharpen them up. factory fresh not all studs are seated 100%, so
they may pop out if you light up the tires

what do you mean by lighting up the tires? I apoogize. I just don't get what you mean?
I already lost one stud.......
So, does this mean I should ride 5mph around the neighborhood? I rode my bike from my house to LBS -1/2 mile and lost one stud........I was "gently" riding.......

Not clear what I should be doing......

Properly placed studs are already seated correctly. Nokian's studs do not need sharpening. In any case, doing so would require the use of diamond (or possibly other exotic) abrasive, though small chips will break off with use due because carbide is brittle.

No, the reason to take it easy with new tires is to give the mold release compound a chance to wear off.

Expect a few studs to fall out with normal use. Nokian plans on this and uses enough studs for good traction even with some missing.

again, what does "take it easy mean?" speed? length of ride?
avoiding potholes? not putting too much in my panniers?

or rather that performance of the tire improves after the first 50km?

Perhaps not performing road cleaning by standing on your pedals..

Peel-out accelerations, late threshold-braking, and drifting through corners are to be avoided.

But just for the first 50 km.:D

What part of the fenders are rubbing? The fender stays should have enough length to allow for ample room between the fenders and tires.
