We shifted our residence from Gig Harbor to PV in late October for the winter season and we'll be here until mid May. If any of you happen to be planning to vacation here we can help line up a rental or loaner bike and take you on a ride up into the mountains or out in the valley depending on the type of terrain you prefer.

Just send us an email and let us know your plans. Questions? Fire away.

I originally was thinking of boxing up my Bike Friday to take down to PV for the week we are staying (in November). But from what I'm reading, it sounds like cycling around town wouldn't be much fun. Am I interpreting things correctly?

I was in Monterrey last week and I was basically confined to the hotel and "encouraged", not to venture out. Granted I was much closer to the Texas/Mexico border area, but, I'm reading between the lines in your post and assume you are talking about the same thing? Personally, right now, I wouldn't take a bike down there with the intention of riding it. YMMV.

Trek2, yeah if you're intent would be to ride in downtown PV it probably wouldn't be that much fun. However, if you are staying out in Nuevo Vallarta you could ride your Bike Friday around there on nice, not too busy roads. We mainly ride mountain bikes here, although we also have DaHon folders that we use for going to the grocery store (we live at Marina Vallarta). In fact, we just this minute got back from a nice two-hour ride up into the hills around the Vista Vallarta golf course. Unlike Monterrey, you will certainly not be confined to your hotel here. You can go basically anywhere. They even had the qualifying round of the Panamerican Games triatholon here last Sunday and they shut down the main highway into downtown for the run and ride portions. There are frequent cycling competitions here. If you do want to ride downtown, which we sometimes do, the best time is Sunday morning early when there is hardly any traffic. If I can answer any other questions now, or when you get down here, just let me know.

Thanks for the quick replies, and all the information.

The condo we are staying in has a marina vallarta address. I will contact them and see if they have any bikes to rent. Sounds like that might be an alternative.
