Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Schwinn Paramount value??

I recently inherited a Schwinn Paramount aluminum frame with campagnolo parts. For some reason my Dad's army budy took the bike apart, and I have struggled to put the bike together. All the parts are with the frame, and new tires were in the box. The frame is in good condition. I was told that the bike was worth about $1500. I was wondering if this was true and if there is any market for it.

You say aluminum, but are you referring to Reynolds 531? I don't think any true Paramounts were aluminum. Need photos for any real commenting. Good clear photos of drive side, tubing marking (if any) at top of seat post, cranks, frame lugs, bottom bracket, shifters, derailleurs.

I am sure the Paramount experts will jump in soon.

Dumped Jim? No need to be hating on the RC guys. The OP posted this thread in C&V, not in Road. I simply moved it over one. I have never moved a thread here from Road and I don't think anyone else has either. If you feel any thread is posted here incorrectly please feel free to use the report to moderator button and we will look at it and move it if needed.

Yes. There were no Paramounts with aluminum frames. Ever. There were titanium framed Paramounts built by Serotta in the late nineties, and there was the carbon fiber Paramount Series 9C built by Kestrel in 1992 (and the recently introduced CF Paramount Series 8 and Series 9), but never any aluminum Paramounts.

The Aluminum models 974, 754, 684, 594, 564, 434, and 354 in the late eighties and early nineties were designed by the Paramount Design Group (PDG) in Waterford, but were never labeled nor marketed as Paramounts.

OP, can you post a photo or describe the decaling?

I believe the bike is a mid 80's model and is maroon in color. The decal that goes on the front of the bike is the standard schwinn decal and it says Schwinn paramount. I am not really sure that it is aluminum, that is just what a friend told me.

Try the magnet test. Though I never tried it on Titanium.

If it's a mid eighties Paramount, it would have a Columbus SLX or SL/SP mix steel frame (the smaller frames used SLX, the larger ones SL/SP). The bike would have been built at the Waterford, Wisconsin facility.

The serial number will be stamped into the bottom of the bottom bracket shell. That will tell us the size of the frame and the month it was built.

This is my '87 62cm Paramount Standard, and if it's a mid-eighties Paramount the decals should be similar to the ones on mine.

Serial number 620E WK 87077 translates to 620mm c-t seattube, E=long steerer tube on fork (A is shortest, E is longest), W=Waterford, K=October, 87077=77th frame built in October, 1987.
