I just finished a bathroom remodel for the most annoying customer I've ever met. The guy stood in the door way and just stared at me for three days while I worked. I would go to my truck to get something and he would follow me, I would go to the garage to get materials and he would follow me out then follow my back in and just stand there watching me work. It was so annoying.
Now, he's kind of tall so he wanted the shower head raised by six inches. So he watched me raise it. Then he wanted the shower crescent rod installed at the height of the shower head, so he watched me install it right where he wanted it. Well his wife comes home and hates how high the shower head and shower rod are. So this ****** bag calls my office and complains that I put his shower head and curtain rod to high, when I put them exactly where he wanted me too.
I have to go there Saturday to lower everything, which involve tearing out the walls and re doing them. If this jerk so much as looks at me wrong I swear I'll beat the **** out of him!

Did you tell your boss that the owner wanted it that way? And did you write down on your work order or call the boss to tell him the shower was going to be altered?

It may be overkill but I keep records of EVERYTHING.

Thats why you should have the customer call the office if he/she wants any special changes :thumb: Its this easy,"Im sorry, your going to have to call the office and have them give me the OK on that." ;) Then they can charge extra for "custom work."

Yes, The contract actually had "Raise shower six inches" written in the plans, and the customer signed the original contract. He reiterated, when I reviewed the contract with him, that he wanted it raised. When the Production manager told the customer that the signed contract had instructions to raise the shower, he said "Well the contractor should have advised me that it was going to be too high."
That's the problem with working for a big company, they're so afraid of customer complaints. If this was my own job, I would would make them pay to have it redone. If they refused to pay for the job, I would put a lean on their house.

When I go back Saturday I'm supposed to measure everything and have the customer sign off on the height of everything I put in.

Too high for what - the water to fall down?

I wish I would have had my shower head raised when I did my remodel last year, but I didn't think of it.

WTF? How can a showerhead be "too high"? Have they not heard of, you know, gravity?

You should give the guy one of those height-adjustable showerhead arms, and tell him to jump off a bridge.

If she's a hobbit and he's an NBA player, then it would be hard for her to make adjustments on the fly.

I move the shower head about six times each shower.

But they should know each other well enough to install dual heads like many couples do.

take a grease pencil and have him mark on the wall with a big x where he want the head. Take digital pics of him doing so.

Even without dual heads, they should have at least consulted with each other before having expensive plumbing work done...

Well you are working for the company and you are getting paid either way. The boss knows because of the contract he wanted it that way. So you are not in trouble, just getting paid to do it over again! :) Try to look at it in a positive light because if you don't, you might end up upset all day. And that guy just isn't worth ruining your day for.

And having him sign everything off....that's good. Because then for sure he cannot dispute it. It covers your butt. :thumb:

Just don't say anything more than you need to say on Saturday. Keep your eyes toward your work. You'll be just fine. :)

I can tell that some people push a lot of paper rather than working with their hands.

It sounds to me like efrobert did his due diligence. When faced with a customer like that, sometimes the best thing is to tell them exactly in great detail what a self-entitled whiner they are, pack up your tools and leave. Breaking all the work you've done on the way out isn't a bad idea either.

But he's working for a company. He might lose his job if he did that. I'm in for covering yourself is all. :(

One counter-annoyance strategy would be, every time a client makes a request, get him (or her) to sign
a form that specifies what they asked for and then marks the date and their signature. Then you have a record. Every time they ask for some change or spec you lock it in writing--whip that puppy out when they pull this bull**** and politely tell them "I'm happy to change my work, but because I was proceeding per your instructions I am not in error, thus you will be billed for the additional out of scope labor."

Paper them with forms--you can annoy them back and keep them from weaseling around and telling you you did something wrong that they in fact requested.

If she's a hobbit and he's an NBA player, then it would be hard for her to make adjustments on the fly.

Those adjustments shouldn't be too difficult, as the fly would be right about at her eye level.

Wait a minute, what were we talking about again?

IMO, working for a company that has no trust in their craftsmen's judgement is no job at all.
