never had a mtb before, not sure what to get(ever hear that before). anyway, i'll be using it mostly on road and trails, no jumps (at least not on purpose). i'm looking at the specialized hardrock or the kuna blaster (lbs's). i know the kona costs more so is probably the better bike but do ya think the hardrock is good enough for me? btw, this looks like a great forum.

Both will serve you well. I've had very good luck with Specialized bikes. Pick the one that you like best.

I started out with a hardrock and its still working well. My daughter and girlfriend ride it as i stepped up to full suspension. Its a good bike, but the one for you to buy is the one that feels the most comfortable. Ride them both and then make your choice. Everyone has a different feel for their bike.

i'm kind of surprised with the answers so far, i figured everone would say go for the kuna. i thought it was the better bike with the deore(sp?) gears.

The hardrock is a great bike. Your pretty much paying for the frame because the parts are pretty low end, but that also depends on what model hardrock you choose. Anyway, the frames are right up there in strength with the p series bikes but their geometry and part spec is more suited for recreation trail riding. I know a few guys who use their hardrocks for urban riding as most people would use a p2 or various other aggro bikes. Most people dismiss them because of their low pricepoint, but dont let that fool you. Great bang for the buck.
