Ok, so I’m thinking of upgrading my Giant NRS 1. It’s in great shape with several upgrades already (all XT drive train, seat, tires etc.) but after my last ride, I decided it need a stiffer front fork. The current SID is a bit noodly even under my 165lb frame. So I have been looking at replacing both front and rear shocks with Fox products: For the front, the Fox 32mm F Series and the rear the Float R (the bike runs zero sag and doesn’t require a lockout). So what are the thoughts on the shocks and the Fox/Shimano 15mm QR? Also the bike is currently set up for 100mm travel. Would jumping up to 120 or even 140 (Float) cause more issues than its worth? Also I need a 32 spoke 15QR hub that’s compatible with the existing Hayes 6” disk. Thoughts on that?

Well, what the mags didn't tell you is that for 2009 you can still get the 32 fox forks non 15mm. With the NRS, stick to 100.

I know about the availability of the 9mm QR, but I figure if I'm going to the trouble of upgrading the fork, why not go with the 15mm for the additional stiffness? Is it just not noticeable in a modest travel XC fork? BTW lack of stiffness in the front fork is my only problem with this bike.

The jump up to 32 mm stanctions will be more than enough stiffness compared to the 28.6 stanctions of the old Sids.

A man with your money should go XO and leave that XT stuff to the lowly folks.

But that would be to presumptuous and flashy wouldn't it?

I went from a SID to an F100 last year. As you correctly surmise the SID was like a wet noodle by comparison.
And you might as well go to a 15mm, even though I think yet another hub standard is quite lame from a broader standpoint.
