Foo - Need cello music

One of my all time favorite instruments. There are very few instruments that can be played as though the music is not coming from in front of you, but is being washed over you. It can engulf your entire body and carry you away with its sound.

Zoe Keating has an interesting technique of looping.

I'm thinking of picking up her cd. Any other suggestions for solo cello artists?

Only thing I'd change would be a double bass for the real bass lines. outside of that....well, just awesome!

Listenning to Zoe Keating is very similar to being pelted with popcorn. And Apocalyptica, [considering Artifice's good looks, perhaps I should say something nice...........naaaaah!] is a hugely talented cover band. Artifice, why did you choose that name?

Of course, I'm a violinist, so I don't have the same problem, but I still intensely dislike Pachelbel's Canon.

Um...Pablo Casalis is a good one for classical cello. Mstislav Rostropovich too.:thumb:

i like their 'reflections' cd from 4 or 5 years ago too....i think that was their first one with all their own original music.

end thread.Wow, last I heard of them, they were four dudes with four cellos covering Metallica songs. Their first album was okay, but I didn't see them making a second. I guess they branched out. :)

Not a solo piece, but Brahms' Op. 38 Sonata for Cello and Piano in e. The Op. 99 ain't too bad either, but the 38 is my favorite. Especially the last movement (a raucous fugue derived from Bach's Art of the Fugue, Contrapunctus XIII).

You might also check out Shostakovich's sonata and the concerto as well- both fabulous pieces.

And, while you're at it, a quartet or quintet that brings out the cello's best is a good thing- check out works by Fauré as well as the Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time.

Cello is probably my favourite stringed instrument. Thanks for posting that clip of Zoe. I really, really liked that. Yet another artist to add to my "Like" list.....
