Foo - Your Grandma's cooking

I love her sweet potatoes. ooooohhhhh. they are sooo good. It's like sex, only better. Wait. That didn't work. I have not idea what sex is like.

Awesome. Her apple pie is quite possibly the best on the planet. In fact, it is the best.

I'm looking at the thread title, and then Hickeydog's comments, and am perplexed. Both of my Grandmothers have been deceased for nearly all of - if not all of his lifetime. How could he possibly know about their abilities with sweet potatos? :eek:

Am I missing something? Can I expect to once again expect to taste my Grandma's sage-saturated stuffing, or her incomparable Cream of Wheat?

Wouldn't know... Both of mine have been dead for over 15 years.

One grandmother was from Germany ----- her food was spectacular! 'cept when she discovered she didn't like spiders - and so in her celler - (she still bought her flour and suger in quantities and kept them in barrels or something from years ago) - she stashed moth balls around everything. So EVERYTHING made using flour or sugar tasted like mothballs. You could smell it when you walked into the house. However there was nothing wrong with her purple cabbage.

The other grandmother made yummy big meals with creamed peas, awesome mashed potatoes and wonderful gravy. However - she cooked the snot out any meat - (where my Mom got it I'm sure) and so the beef would flake off - but that problem was taken care of with GRAVY.

Her boston cream pies and rice pudding were out of this world!

My maternal grandmother used to make these huge cookies - like 4 or 5 inches diameter. I have her recipes for the oatmeal ones and lemon ones. They would puff up like cake and be a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

My bestest friend in grade school's Mom made THE BEST cookies - just like that and big and they were something I have never had since. I make hockey pucks myself.

The operative in this thread is Grandmother's cooking. You, my dear, are far too young to be in that category. :thumb:

I had a German Grandmother who was a fantastic baker. My Dutch Grandmother was a fantastic cook. She made this amazing gravy when she cooked beef. Nobody's gravy has come close.

Both of my Grandfathers couldn't cook to save their lives.

My grandmoms were awesome--italian on dad's side and chinese-filipino on mum's side. Such good food!

I learned how to cook from my maternal grandma--my mum would drop me over at her place for the summer and we'd cook up a storm. We made excellent leche flan all the time because she could only eat the whites of the egg, and she saved the yolks for desserts. Mmmmm. She does awesome stews and noodle dishes too. Awwww....now I miss my lola!! :cry:

My grandmother has been gone a little over a year, but she was a good cook. I don't remember much about her food, but I do remember amazingly good chocolate pies. :love:

Neither of my grandmothers could cook. My mom can't cook. My M-I-L can't cook. My wife is inept in the kitchen. Good thing I love to cook, and others really enjoy what I eat, so I must do ok.
