Road Cycling - Other Bike Brand than your own

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay here goes, "IF" you had to choose another bike, OTHER than your preferred bike, what would it be?
State what Bike you currently own and what bike you would like other than your preferred bike.
As for me, everyone knows I LOVE "BIANCHI" But if Bianchi didnt exist I guess I would want this bike.
But please dont let it be known.......I prefer it be kept a secret............
Oh gosh... if I didn't have my DeRosa, I would definitely get a Cologno, fershizzle, my hizzle... :D

I currently ride a 14-year-old Renn DeWitt custom frame (Columbus SL) with Dura-Ace 8-speed STI.
I've got a Ritchey Road Logic on order.
http://ritcheylogic.com/images/frameroadlogic.jpg
I expect to outfit it with as many Ritchey WCS components as they make and the rest of the group with Campy Record 10.
If I had the 2+ years to wait and the extra $2,500 over the cost of the Ritchey, I'd spring for a Richard Sachs and a full Campy Record 10 group.

If I had to pick Ti, it'd be a Moots VaMoots in a second...

There's my top three bikes I don't own yet (for another week or so, that is...)

Well i have a trek 1000, very basic....so i would go for a madone 5.9 team colors probably
I'd like a 1971 Schwinn Racer in mint condition - seriously.
And a Serotta Legend.
55/Rad
Well I just got my OCR2 which I've only gotten 4 rides on but I'm already starting to fine tune the fit and I really love it.
But I'd love to get my hands on a titus exogrid carbon/ti bike, it just looks neat.

Would love a Colnago Anniversary, or something else in carbon - my LBS just got some Kuota bikes/frames in, and they look pretty cool.

My vote goes for a calfee dragonfly. Lightweight and not too many people riding them. Custom construction and a nude carbon finish. A titus ti/carbon exogrid would be nice too. The company is actually just down the street from me. dragonfly (http://www.calfeedesign.com/dragonflylarge.shtml)
Too many to choose from but I suppose my first choice would be a Colnago MXL outfitted with vintage friction Campy because I always wanted a Italin steed. My second choice would have to be a Rivendell outfitted with vintage friction Suntour because I think Grant is making the best American retro bike on the market. I think there's a pattern here! My signature line is my current bike.
Actually, this is more along the lines of what bike I'd like to get next. I've got an Aegis Aro Svelte right now. I've got my eyes on a Co-Motion Espresso. I really miss a nice steel frame.
http://www.co-motion.com/graphics/espressoCP2003.gif
I'd also be quite inclined to get a custom bike by Erickson (http://www.sandsmachine.com/p_eri_r3.jpg)...

You should see those lugs and crafted S+S connectors (http://www.sandsmachine.com/bp_erick.htm)!

this post took some time for me to put together...
i have an old school pinarello. columbus tubing, chrome detailing...class.
i'm not sure what i'd want, as i'm pretty stoked on what i've got, and i don't really need "more bike." that's not to say that i don't lust after different bikes...
currently lusting after: van tuyl 980 road special (http://www.vantuyl.nl/index.php?id=255#), any of the steel pegorettis (http://www.pegoretticicli.com/#), look KG486 (carbon WHAT!?), Thylacine Tephra Ti (custom, baby).
i think i'd most likely go after the thylacine, because it'd be custom...

I'm riding a Bianchi Volpe, and I have a lavendar mist colored Bianchi Sport that I'm trying to breath life into. What I'd really like is to have my vintage Trek TX-500 frame back but that, alas, vanished when the shop that was going to paint it went bust.
To soothe my wounds over the Trek, I'm going way over the top and getting a custom Mercian King of Mercia: http://www.merciancycles.co.uk

If I had to get another road bike however, I would either choose the Trek 5900 (Project one spotted cow paint) (http://projectone.trekbikes.com/options/larger.asp?image=../images/paint/large/spotted_cow_lg.jpg) or a Nice Colnago C50

Awww thanks for the honourable mention, Slothy.
Now, naturally I ride my own bikes, but if I had to reel off my favourite brands - companies that I think do good work and actually mean something - this is what I'd pick ( by material, road bike specific, no particular order )
Steel -
Pegoretti, Scapin, IndyFab, Sachs, Rivendell, Columbine, Spectrum, Vanilla, Anvil, Bohemian, Ritchey, Landshark ( just for the paint )
Carbon -
Calfee, Parlee
Titanium -
Ti-Cycles, Moots, Kish, Roark, Serotta, Titus
Aluminium -
Kavik, Felt
These are just off the top of my head, so I'm sure there's others, but any of those would do me just fine ( maybe ). Gee, no Cannondale, Trek or Bianchi in there. Who woulda guessed ;)

I've got an Orbea and a Cannondale, but I really wanted an Independent Fabrications steel crown jewel with a tricked out paint job and Record bits. Although, the Orbea kicks more ass than I thought it would so I'm pretty much good right now.
Oh gosh... if I didn't have my DeRosa, I would definitely get a Cologno, fershizzle, my hizzle... :D
If I didn't have my Litespeed Arenberg (Ultegra), and unlimited resources, I would perhaps to for a Chorus-equipped De Rosa Titanio:

I am currntly riding a Velorazzo vincitore, but I would love to own a Pinarello dogma!
I ride a Serotta, but if I had to have a different bike,
Dave Kirk comes to mind as does Peter Weigle.
then there's Brian Baylis, Richard Sachs, Peter Moon.
Vintage? Pogliaghi in the obtainable realm, late 60's early 70's colnago,
in the unobtainable realm, Confente, and currently Zieleman (just because they
are difficult to find).

oo man. thats a toughie. I'd want either Ti or carbon...for carbon, I'd go with a look, but one of the skinny frames, not like the "monoque" posted above. either that or a 5900 w/ a custom paint job. I think it would be tight to have one completely blacked out...c'mon, admit it. it'd be hot...
for Ti, I'd probably go indy fab or seven. those are some gorgeous bikes...but they'd have to be custom, becuase I'd want the same geometry as my lemond...which is simply perfect.

I would take the Seven as well. Plenty of nice bikes to dream about, but realistically the Seven wins. If I had that kind of money to begin with I would probably buy more than just the Seven as well. Probably a nice fixie as well.

Nah, the fun of a fixie is that you take an old frame and build it up. No reason to spend much. Makes it more, well, yours.
Or, hook up a C-50 frameset with an eccentric rear hub and ride it fixed. That would rawk.

Yeah, trying to build up a thrift store fixie now. Still, if i had the money it would at least get a nice set of wheels, crankset, etc.

Just do a little at a time. Mine is functional but not real attractive. I splurged on the hub since I had a frame with vertical dropouts, but the rest was done on the cheap or from my personal used parts bin.
I can see it now, a C-50 with carbon fork, cranks, stem, bars, seatpost, saddle and front hub. It'd cost more than any road bike I'll likely own and wouldn't have a derailleur on it.
I ride a LOOK. If I "had" to get something else I'd get a DeRosa.

Seems a lot of people are into the time-trial geometry. For those who have posted pictures of time-trial bikes, is that a preferred riding position or do you just like the way they look?

I like the way they look and they also looks like tons of fun. The time trials (team especially) in the grand tours are always my favorite to watch because it looks so fluid and lovely. The only problem is how ill suited they are for everyday riding, thus I doubt I could justify the cost of the areo frame, wheels, bars, etc. I've been considering putting some areo bars on my road bike, but it still probably wouldn't feel the same.

I've ridden a few TT bikes and they feel awkward. They handle like crap IMHO. They are however fast in a fairly straight and level course. If I was a triathlete or doing serious TT races then I guess I would have one in my stable but I agree that for general riding, it's a suboptimal geometry.

Very nice looking bike. It also reminds me of the Mrazek bikes...

Personally, I don't know why Mrazek decided to go with a straight blade fork. I would probably swap in an Ouza just for the carbon and the curvature as well as a Mutant stem.

I rode one of these, it was a nice ride, BUT I still preferred my Bianchi, maybe because it was more comfortable to me or just because it was mine, my Bianchi just felt smoother, but that could be because I was so used to my Bianchi, could be a number of reasons, but still the bike you want is sweet.

I had a similar experience when I test rode a C40 and a Look KG381 and tried to compare them to my Aegis. I would guess that being accustomed to your current ride adds quite a bit of bias. Also, I don't know about you but I remember that when I first got my Aegis, I didn't feel nearly as comfortable. I think people do grow into their bikes so it's not really fair to compare a new bike to one you've already grown accustomed to. Maybe that was the point of this whole thread?

Thats true, you are correct, I also think we grow accustomed to our own bikes.
But the real reason for this thread was to see what others tastes were in bicycles, and to be honest i have seen some very sweet bikes... Maybe some day "IF" I am ever in the market again I may give one of the bikes listed in this thread a try, who knows I may have to change my name to something else LOL
