Foo - The Best Animated Scene Of All Time

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

For years I used to go to the Festival of Animation when it would come to town. And I always cracked up at this one. It's not the best animation or music, but it's a classic.

Look at your post times...you didn't watch it!
That's okay...Stravinsky has been booed/overlooked/stepped on before. It takes time to sit back and appreciate something so rich and sublime. It's like a three-layer chocolate fudge cake. You can't wolf it down.
Take a moment and breathe. Appreciate it...let it sink in.

Dude, I have a kid. I've seen Fantasia a million times and I had it on VHS.
I can reinact the whole Sorcerer's Apprentice scene from memory.
Look at your post times...you didn't watch it!I didn't. I have loud music playing that I don't think it would mesh well with. I'll watch it later, if I remember.
Honestly, I'd never really given Fantasia 2000 much consideration. The original was great, but with most Disney sequels being seventeen pounds of crap in a small, mesh sack, it never really hit the radar.

That's a different Fantasia.
But I would rather argue the merits of the work or an honest critique than the flippant attitude, thanks.
I should have known better than to share something personal. That's why I keep to myself, and am frankly a hermit. It backfires everytime. Sorry guys...wrong planet!
My apologies, I did not mean to be flippant. It's just that having a kid sort of turns you off of Disney stuff after watching it non stop for years. And I've seen that version of Fantasia.
Disney did beautiful work but I like a little more whimsy, something like the Snowman. It's not perfect animation but the style helps tell the story.

That version of Firebird Suite has a bit of sentimental value to me.
Was the last song I ever played in the high school. Was a good group, did a lot of touring, one trip overseas and did a bunch of competitions. The final year, I was the principal player in the group with the Tuba. Used the song twice for closings, first was at a national music festival in Virgina, won that. Second time was the final concert and got a standing O.
During that year, I also was in Jazz band with trumpet, marching band with Sousaphone. Orchestra with Tuba, Brass Quintet with Tuba. Honors band, and at the end of the school year when everyone else went on a cruise to celebrate graduation I went home and went to sleep because I was going to Switzerland the next day with with an orchestra. That was the last time I ever played a tuba. Did one more tour with that orchestra a few years later, this time on trumpet, but wound up not being able to do much, due to still having a busted up hand from a crash on the bike and suffering from a bad respiratory infection.
the firebird suite is actually one of my favorite pieces.
it is a cliche. but it is one of the better detailed and just a generally pretty scene

All sarcasm aside, surely you can't expect to post something as "the best scene of all time" and not expect people to disagree or have their own opinions.
Firebird suite has grown on me...I love Petruschka, and it is always paired with that on recordings

First of all, Court has added to my angst by posting more videos and burying my video even furthur.
Thanks man, geez...:rolleyes:We have a ton of "what is your favourite youtube vid" threads, but don't worry. Just **** on mine.
Cbad...you're a cool person. You know I know that. A rare combo of traits in a person. I like you.
But as I said (and you are all very smart and understand english), If people were to criticize the work of art I posted, comment on it or even, for the love of all that is in the cosmos...WATCH IT...or simply skip the thread because they either:
1. Hate Disney
2. Hate Stravinsky
3. Hate Me.
Then that would be fine. Really.

I'm not asking for pity or willing slaves. Just some dignified , non-political or religious conversation about the three most important things to me: Nature, Art, and Music.
*SIGH*
Jesus Christ I'm disappointed beyond measure for mankind at this point. A similar thing happened today at a music forum (A MUSIC FORUM!). Has the whole world gone mad? I have no one to talk to in a meaningful way. This is crazy.
I'm truly sorry you had a bad day, S. I for one (and I think pretty much everyone else) wasn't trying to be mean. I apologize if my posts were insensitive.
If you really wanted serious discussion on this, might the music area of the lounge been more suitable? I've only been in there a few times, but it seems that's where I'd go for something more substantial about music, film, etc. I kinda take it for granted that we all act like knuckleheads here (foo) - albeit, hopefully in an affectionate way.

I have a proposal. We have other somewhat "serious" threads about photography and artwork, why not start one about music?
From perusing the posts in those two threads, it looks like people post things that they created or find meaningful, and the tone is a bit more respectful rather than silly.
We have quite a few professional and wannabe musicians in this forum, I'm sure you'd find some kindred spirits to communicate with.
I may be autistic, but I want to be part of the wider world just like you. I want to have a group of friends just like you. I want to be myself just like you...no, wait....um.. (see, I have a sense of humour too, just like you!).
So forgive me folks, I will climb back into my hobbit hole. I am made of of deep feelings and it's hard to express myself or read people, so stuff like this just confuses me more than you can imagine. For what it's worth, on the internet, you're not alone in that. The common belief these days is that Asperger's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome) may account for a lot of the stereotypical "nerds" out there. Hell, I see a lot of myself in the descriptions of Asperger's, but I've taken just enough psychology classes to know not to self-diagnose. :)
S, I know what you mean about the music thread....lots of tumbleweeds and crickets over there, sadly.
Believe me, I know what you mean about the other stuff, too. It ain't easy. But all we can do is try... and keep on trying.
In spite of my silliness and failure to be more responsive to this thread, I for one am glad you post here. And I hope you continue to share with us.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not what I wanted.
I wanted to share through this work with others, all and any others, regardless of background or intrest. My aim was not to have a "serious discussion about music". I'm trying to share from my POV, the joys and sorrows of life.
It's not about being a nerd, X.Oh, I didn't mean to imply it that way. Apologies.

I'm trying to share from my POV, the joys and sorrows of life. You express through certain idioms and expressions. Can I? It's very, very difficult. But I try like a fool.
In my opinion that's what the other threads are doing. People post things that mean something to them and that they want to share with others. Those who are more serious about art or photography will offer more opinionated comments. Those who aren't experienced get exposed to some types of art or photography that they've never seen before. The threads are more about sharing with others as opposed to serious discussions. The tone of the thread and the behavior of the posters is more dignified than the average Foo stuff.
So many of the others communicate about themselves through those threads: kaotikgrl's photos show a side of her that you can't express in words. And Lamplight's drawings of bicycles communicate so much more about his love of bikes than comes through in his written posts.
I say give us a chance. We might surprise you.

Oh my GOD, it was so beautiful! It was really quite invigorating, with hopes of an able, wonderful future. Life can deal you shiote sometimes, but hell if you can't overcome those shioteholes that's been tossed your way. You can always press through for tomorrow.
The music is classic. Gorgeous symphony that dates back to those years in which Fantasia fascinated me.
The wood nymph who stole the heart of the buck. It makes me want to melt into a puddle its such a gorgeous, pure relationship they have with each other. They have love and then they are separated, but then she pulls through with everything, can see where she's been and learn from it all.
Pure beauty.

But there is the danger. It's not a real community, is it?Perhaps not, but it's probably as close as a bunch of random people meeting on an internet website about bicycles can get. :)
I have always stood outside of the group dynamic. Outside, looking in. In the end, I wish I had more in common with you guys. I wish existence was not such a monumental effort of being.
I wish a was just normal and regular so I could just fit in. I don't even look like the average Joe. I'm not black enough for the blacks, and not white enough for the whites. Not religious enough for church, and not enough of a heathen for the partygoers.Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to be different, even very different. The world would be a sad, gray place if everyone were the same, and even sadder if everyone chose to ignore their personalities, and decided to pretend to be alike in order to fit in.
Granted, being "different" can get you ostracized from the type of groups who judge you by the color of your skin or the strength of your religious convictions, but those groups are boring anyway. (And by the way, not all "heathens" are partygoers.)
Ironically, the best I can feel is when I'm by myself. The most lonely and isolated I am is in a group dynamic, like this or at a party or in a classroom, etc.. Do you understand what I'm saying? All is calm when I'm with myself, but when I step out of my shell and try to enter a circle, I feel trapped and alone...and misunderstood. Very painful.Believe it or not, I do understand. I'm mildly terrified of social situations. On the rare occasion that I find myself having to use the phone, I'll put off making the call for as long as I possibly can. I'm not a fan of big groups of people, and usually find myself withdrawing more than usual when put into such a situation. I end up spending a great deal of my time doing things by myself, because it's somehow easier to do so.

I don't really have social anxiety. I'm very outgoing. It just backfires on me, that's all. So I simplify and recluse.

I watched, and learned.
My husband tells me that he doesn't hear music the way I do. Apparently my whole face changes when I listen--I am so intent on listening to the way music acts in my mind.
Even though as a migraineur I share some of your difficulties, my life is not nearly like yours. For years, though, life was so painful that I would retreat into a shell, coming out only to read. It hurt physically to be touched, so I could not stand to be hugged.
Music was always a way of getting around the pain.
Dipper, don't retreat into that shell and become a hermit hobbit. I am, and remain, your friend.

I can't argue with that selection. The first time I saw that was in IMAX and when the fire monster awakens (3:08 in your link), my heart jumped into my throat. The theater gasped as one, and every baby and small child in the theater started crying. Probably the most awesome moment I've spent watching a movie.
