Northern California - Cyclers in the Livermore Ca

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am just getting started in cycling and having a bunch of fun with it. I live in Livermore and as of right now I cycle alone and go about 15-20 miles each time. I would like to find someone who would be interested in partnering up and doing some rides.

Hi Ken,
Welcome, have a great time here and out on the roads.
There are a lot of BikeForums riders down your way, I'll bet you find some here.
I ride in Livermore occasionally, I live in Concord though.
I think Livermore is a great base for a cyclist, lots of good roads in the Livermore, Sunol, Pleasanton, San Ramon area.
Watch the forum for a ride you think you might want to join. There is always something going on.
Keep those miles coming. What kind of bike are you riding?
I just bought an entry level bike, the 2008 Trek 1.2

I am in Livermore and I go out most days, I do vary from each day how far I ride. If you would like to meet up let me know. We could see if anyone else would be interested.

Sounds great. When are you riding next and about what time do you usually go? I was thinking about going out tomorrow so if your interested let me know and we can figure out when and where to meet. I live in Springtown.

Ask your local bike shop about local cycling clubs. Many clubs lead easy rides for beginners and families, as well as harder/faster/steeper rides for experienced cyclists.

Never apologize for an entry level bike. Your Trek is a far sight better than my entry bike.
I started on a $75 Walmart bike and worked my way up to 50 milers on that thing.
It is still in my garden shed, I just can't seem to part with the ride that started it all for me.

Cyclepath in Pleasanton has rides starting from it's shop. They do beginner level rides. They teach a lot of riding skills.

Very true. My first bike was also from Wal-Mart but it was $50. My first real ride on it was 30 miles, what a hunk of junk. The chain kept falling off every 2-3 miles and it kept skipping out of gear. Oh well, it got me to where I am today and now I love the new bike.

In your case, you are close to one of the best shops in the entire Bay Area - Livermore Cyclery, run by Steve Howard. But I bet you already know about them . . . .
If you are looking for a club, check the Valley Spokesmen. (The Cyclotrons, a racing bunch out of the Lawrence lab, have a decades-old rep for being hammer-heads. You have been warned.) And going out with bigbossman is always good for entertainment - and I speak from extensive4 personal experience.
Living in the Springtown part of Livermore, I'm sure your horizons already include: Altamont Pass Road, Flynn Road, Cross Road, Patterson Pass Road, Manning Road, Highland Road, Collier Canyon Road, Tesla/Corral Hollow Road and Mines Road. If they don't, they should. (Just don't get caught on the Tracy side of the hills in the late afternoon - the wind can be really unpleasant.)

Looks like I will be moving to Livermore at the beginning of March... I'd definitely like to meet up with locals and have them show me some beginner rides... You up for the job yet Ken? Or anyone else with a post-count far higher than mine?

I might be biased but I think you will be spoilt for choice when you move here. Livermore is a great place to ride but it does get a bit windy at times. The locals are pretty friendly ;-)

I'm in San Ramon, not too far away. Hit me up anytime for a ride.

So I am finally out here and already set up my ride this week... Does anybody know of a group ride this weekend or want to meet up and show a new guy around? Preferably in the morning... I am on the Vasco/Northfront side of town but getting familiar with the city map real fast...

About 20 miles from you, on Sunday. All the cool kids will be there, and pizza afterwards:
