Tandem Cycling - S&S vs Parker Case

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Caseman has the Parker DX2626-10 hard travel case (gray) on sale for $266. S&S on their website says that the case is a bit over 62" (depending on how you measure it) and may be subject to oversize charges. Will airlines actually measure these cases and charge oversize for being 1.25" over (at the largest dimension) because of the ribs?

Any more it's probably a crap-shoot.
When I bought our cases the measurement standard that was being used was L X W X H, measured at the edges of the case which would have excluded the molded-in skids. It didn't make sense to me since the ribs added to the girth of the case, but that's how it was calculated back in 2002.
However, I've always made a point of using curb side check-in when we've travelled with our tandem and have my tip money in hand so that the skycap can see it. I've never seen a skycap pull out a tape measure in the past but, then again, it's been a couple years since we've travelled by air and the major carriers have apparently turned checked baggage fees into a revenue stream.

That's what I think. I'll probably stick with the S&S case given the problems people have been having. It would be better not giving them further excuses.

All they need is one of those Sizing Frames to drop it through; very effective GO-NOGO gage. However, so far I have only seen those at the inside counters; not outside...
