Classic & Vintage - Raleigh Maverick

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I saved a bike from going in to the dump just for the massive handlebars and I checked it out on Google last night and it says that it was one of the first mountain bikes made around 1985. Can anyone tell me anything about the Raleigh Maverick.

sorry Mark, they sucked.........
a patronisingly inexact and cheap copy of the US designed bikes which were causing a storm at the time. They were a symptom of Raleigh's woes back then. Their management had huge amounts of complacency and an attitude of entitlement. They thought they just had to market any kind of 'Mountain Bike' and the name would sell it. It didn't and we bought smaller companies' products instead. For decades!
Thats ok. I was just curious as to where they stood in history. Back to the dump for it then.

Hi, is the bike for sale?
the raleigh maverick what a scary bike i bought one the standard 15 version in 1986 from halfords £220 to be honest it was heavy clumsy the handlebars were way too big the gear levers were tacky and it had this strange guard on the rear wheel i never saw two bikes with the same pedals (usually bmx type)
i think whoever designed it took drugs and merged a bomber, with cyclo cross parts and filled the frame with lead .........however the best looking bike in that range was easily the super 15 maverick
these days its a saracen killiteam and a fixed wheel 4 me..no more raleigh mavericks thank goodness the last time i saw one was in the lincoln cycle museum
best wishes
salem
