Hey all,
I will be moving up the Albany, NY area come next month (January) and I was just curious if anyone could point me in the direction of some good clubs/group rides that may have a focus on racing. I plan on getting into racing and would love to be able to meet up with some like minded people!
Thanks in advance!

I lived there for 6 years (now in Maryland) and the cycling is very good - lots of paved country roads with little traffic.
A for clubs/racing, you should contact a shop called "the downtube' - its the best shop around and they would know

I wouldn't call the Downtube the best shop. They are more focused on the casual rider, but I do like them. Check out the Mohawk-Hudson cycling club and the Capital bicycle racing club. I know there are fast group rides out in Delmar, but I have yet to make it to one. There are a bunch of shops in the area too. Steiners (my preferred, mainly becuase of proximity). There are a few shops in the Saratoga/Clifton Park area as well.
Shoot me a PM if you have any quesitons. I lived in Albany for the past 4 years or so, and I am in Troy now, so I know a good deal about the area and I would be happy to help.

Highly recommend Steiners in Glenmont for service.
Mohawk Hudson Cycle Club website http://webmhcc.org/rn/index.php is a good source.
Delmar ride on Tuesday nights in the spring and summer are very good. Southern Albany County (and Greene County) are great places to ride with empty state and county roads that are generally well maintained.
Saratoga County/ Rens/ Washington Counties have some great rides but past experience shows that the driver IQ's are far worse.

+1 for Capital Bicycle Racing Club
Those guys rock! And no, I am not on CBRC, just see them at races a ton, good bunch.

Every Month on the last friday, there is critical mass. It is a casual ride starting at the Washington Park Monument where Henry Johnson Boulevard ends.
Casual: ie no radical protests while riding. It does get a bit thing from December until about March. Single digit weather, snow, sleet, sheet ice, black ice, darkness all have ways of keeping people in warm houses.
