Alright, I'm ready to start my single-speed build up. I have a hybrid frame (Gary Fisher) right now. The geometry is a little different than on a road conversion. Is it better to go with a frame closer to a road bike than a hybrid, or will sticking to the hybrid be alright. I will have to change the fork from a shock to a rigid anyway. Are there any good deals on frame and fork sets with horizontal drop-outs? What is your experience?

I'd go with whatever you've got. A hybrid frame should be perfect for your first single. Especially if it has horizontal dropouts. You don't have to change the fork either. Put it together on the cheap and go from there. You'll probably love it and want to get something more dedicated later on. Then you'll have a spare bike for a friend. Welcome to our world!

And don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way in.

Actually you don't have to worry about the door. You do, however, have to worry about Alpha, Beta and the Viking potentially sniffing your ass as you enter.
