The predictions for the WX on next weekend are fairly good.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42.

Last Sunday we had NINE riders. We do not ride when it snows or rains. The low temperatures are really not that unforgiving. It can be fun.

We ride from Norwell High School at 9 AM on Saturdays. (30 miles or 50 miles)
We also ride from the Shaws plaza in Hanson on Rt 14 & Rt 58(near the bank) at 9 AM on Sundays. (30 miles, 50 miles or 80 miles)

We are a friendly group. We are always looking for newcomers. We usually have coffee as well.

Please bring appropriate gloves, boots, booties, scarve, etc. Dress appropriately and it is a lot of fun. We do not go at an undulating pace. The routes are relatively flat and appropriate for low intensity winter ride.

I would just note that the scenery on the Saturday ride is fantastic. We have several lighthouses on the short loop. You also get to see one of the few windmills in Massachusetts on the short loop.

Bill,
Undulating pace? What pace are you talking about?
Sounds like a great, scenic ride. I'm WNW of you. Can you describe the route a bit more?

Can you be more specific about the pace?

I was thinking of saying if you have to ask then you should not consider riding, but that wouldn't be so funny.

15-16 mph for average speed.

Hey, I'm very sensitive......not.
You understand the reason for asking is so I don't burn you by riding way too fast.....also "not".
How else could I have posed such a delicate question?
Do you all ride spandex? Do the pants, shirt and jacket match? Do you all wear the same team colors?
Do you move left and rotate lead every 43 to 48 seconds?
Is there a Subaru with spare bikes shouting, "pick it up, you can do it" during your ride?

Usually in Hingham people driving subauru's will stop and render aid.

In one instance a captain of the MBRC team flipped over his handlebars. A woman stopped to render aid. She said that she would go home and get some band-aids and towels. She came back with her son in tow. She yelled at her son about the dangers of bicycling without a helmet and asked the captain to explain bicycling safety to her son.

Another time a subuaru picked up a guy and drove him 9 miles home.

We usually have good luck with the subuaru's.

The weather is great for winter cycling. I have several individuals that usually do better in the cold. If you continously ride then you shall be acclimated. We do not try to go for a pace line and 20 mph+ speeds. It isn't worth it. One of the things is to ride 15-16 and retain body heat.

You can over heat at the faster speeds. Plus, you need less clothing for those speeds, but you need more clothing when you slow down. It is too tricky.

I usually ride with a Lake winter shoes, wool socks, cold lizard tights, base layer, cycling jersey, cycling jacket, windshell, baclava, two gloves, and helmut with a cover.

It works really good for me even in to the 20's.

It is best to send me a PM and get onto my email list as I send out bulletins about whether we are riding or not due to the weather.

The hanson route is generally much better 2-3 days after a rainstorm or icestorm. The route shall be clear from ice, but the norwell routes might be loaded with ice. I did the Hanson route on a Saturday and Sunday about 3 weeks ago.

This weekend does not look too good..

I shall probably do a Christmas ride. Last time I only had two other riders! I can not figure out where everyone goes!
