Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So let me preface this by saying I think the guy is the future of the sport and will probably be put down with the greats when he retires.

That being said, why does every keep referring to him as 'the new generation' of clean riders and Lance as 'the old generation' of dopers. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but none of Lance's team ever got pulled from the TdF for doping accusations. As you all remember, Contador's team, Liberty Seguros, got pulled from the 2006 TdF for Operation Puerto. The year prior his teammate Roberto Heras was dq'ed from the Vuelta (which he won) for EPO. Out of all this the 2 to come out peerless where Contador and Vinokourov, but we all know about Vino's transfusion in 07, and his subsequent ban thereafter. The article below has alot of info on Contador and his Puerto involvement. If you want to dismiss it as slander or gossip that's fine too, because this is really my point; why does Contador get a pass on doping and Lance doesn't?

Which leaves Contador, who although clean, has just as must if not more baggage than LA in regards to doping, yet he gets the rep as a clean rider.

If you hadn't notice, this already is an r-word* dopey forum.

*I love the fact that this term has established itself in the PC Dictionary.

I think ONLY those with a vested interest in cycling as a profit making machine are stating that today's riders are the "clean generation". It's propaganda, folks. The more it's repeated, the more valid it seems in the mind.

If you look at the facts (teams/riders getting dinged left and right in TODAY'S pro cycling), doping is quite obviously still a HUGE part of pro riding. Some may argue that today's rider is even more doped up than riders of previous generations. Certainly, stating that today's riders are more clean than the riders of yesterday is just plain foolish, and without any merit.

Contador = not yet shown to be dirty.

Not the same as clean in my mind. Still, that's an opinion. To address the original post? The year that all the big names got busted left new people to fill those big names. AC is just one of them. As stated before. Propaganda.

By they way, when was generation X born?

why does Contador get a pass on doping and Lance doesn't?

Ask Eddie Merckx.

Because Lance is a doper and Contador isn't.

True, and Flandis as well. Tons of circumstancial evidence abounds around both Contador and Armstrong. When I referred to team, I meant the whole team, such as Liberty Seguros getting stripped from even showing up to race.

Is that the standard now? Christ, no wonder I stopped following the sport.

You sure do know a lot about a sport you don't follow.

Edit: And I know how to type

Know like what? Not sure I could name 4 guys on Astana. Hell, I'm not sure I could name 8 current pro riders. Good try though. Knowing the name of guys who got booted from major stage doesn't make you a cycling fan, it just means you read a newspaper once in a while.

I wasn't trying anything. I don't know if I could name people on most teams either, but I do like watching the races that I can.
