Classic & Vintage - Favorite paint jobs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I did a search, but failed to find a similar thread. If you know of one, please let me. Recently I got a new computer because my old one crapped out. Taking all of my saved pictures of favorite bicycle paint jobs. Coincidentally, I just found out I have access to free paint jobs and clear coating. I have decent airbrushing skills, and a bike that is in need of a serious repaint.
Please post pics of your favorite paint jobs and detail work that may inspire me in my winter/spring custom job.
Thanks!

I'm sort of partial to this just because it's so garish and I own it!

Most anything Brian Baylis paints, I like. I also like Dario Pegoretti's paint schemes quite a bit.

I'll admit to liking Candy Apple Red more than anything else but not metal flake red. Candy Apple Red is a transparent red color coat(s) over an opaque silver base coat. It is usually overcoated with clear.

I've seen lots of great paint jobs. The two techniques that I think are really cool are chromovelato

Hope it's okay with you that I am posting these. It;s sort of a metallic charcoal or something...
Always loved these Carltons, not mine, or any traditional English 2-tone job:

I love that! I learned to do it with a sooty flame from an oxy/acetylene torch over white basecoat than "locked down" with an inter coat clear. Fun stuff!
I'm a pretty big fan of the paint on a lot of Colnago's.....

Caterham has the coolest bikes, except maybe for waytoomanybikes. Caterham has an old De Rosa, 2many has a new Peg. I guess it's a cage match between the two.
Personally, I'm a fan of Faema, and neither one of them own one:p
I have three.

I was thinking of those multi-hued paint jobs too, but couldn't remember which maker put those out.
So now I want a Frejus and one of those. When will this sickness depart from me?

I'm afraid it's looking that way Robbie. The paint just keeps flecking off, granted I'm not easy on it, I think I may be mature enough for a super nice paint job.
I really liek that colnago style. Simple masking and light airbrushing...I think with some practice I could handle that. polish the nickel plate and leave it on the lugs and seatstay caps, maybe purple headtube and pearly white main tubes with the forementioned detailing....

Sounds most excellent. I'm coming to the big town tomorrow, got a stop in DT Raleigh, then on to Durham.
Gotta love super bright Italian style :)

Here's the second dilemma. Lejeune replacements decals are all but impossible to find. There were 2 sets on ebay france a little bit back, neither sold, but i also missed my window to bid and the seller hasn't relisted them. I can't afford to have a one-off set made. What are re-badging options? It obviously wouldn't be authentic, but is it treason to badge it as a comparable french ride? WHAT DO I DO?!

If you still have the listing (perhaps in your "My ebay watch list") you can send the seller a message via ebay's system and ask about getting them relisted. They might do it as a "Buy It Now".
I kinda like this Serotta. A bit frilly perhaps, but I like it.

A new, handmade Shamrock Cycles - Fluid Druid (I WILL own one of these one day!)

The builder is local to me - he's in Indy. This is his personal bike that he built to take to France (It has couplers) All of his bikes are gorgeous, and remind me of the classic and vintage bikes that I love, but can never seem to find when I have money. lol

Does anyone know who does this technique? I have an '82 A-D Vent Noir II that I'm building up as a clubman (inspired greatly by steppedinthefunk's Raleigh). The smoke chrome has faded and scuffed over the years and I would love to restore it. Not sure this is the same process, but it sure looks nice.

This is your opportunity to be a Le Jeune graphic designer! That's what I plan to do with my Guerciotti frame -- graphics my way., with some kind of nod their way
