Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - 18650 - what are the dimensions?

After reading about all the homebrew lights on this thread, I'm thinking of giving it a go. I've got a flashlight that has givien up the ghost, but I may be able to recycle its nice aluminum skeleton.

Thinking of grabbing a high-powered LED, slap it in there with the electronics needed and an 18650 to give it glow.

But will an 18650 fit? I don't know -- I've never seen one.

What is the length and width of such a thing?

Diameter 18mm + or - 0.2 mm Length 66mm + or - 0.2mm. If you are talking an old AA flashlight it will not work. 18650 is to large. AA batteries are 14.2mm in diameter and 50mm in length.

They look like AAs on steroids.

What I have is a small flashlight that uses three AAA batteries, held in one of those three-battery cylinders.

I was hoping inside of the flashlight was bigger around than a single battery of this variety.

It it is not too much bigger, than I can shim it out with something, perhaps, to hold it tight. If the flashlight's inner dimensions are too small ... then into the round file.

I have one of those triple AAA flashlights, but it is up at the lake otherwise I would measure it for you. I am pretty sure the diameter is large enough, but it will be to short on the length.
