hello i am going to start biking! because... i had the good fortune of working at the olympics in beijing and then staying for 2 weeks vacation. my friends informed me were were going biking through the karst mountainside in china. i thought they were crazy and that i would politely decline since i haven't ridden a bike since grammar school. well, i went along and it the was the rockingest (?!) thing to do EVER! we rode through tiny tribal villages and rice paddies to name a few places. shared trails with water buffalo, too. i was HOOKED.

so now i am looking for a bike and found this great forum! thanks in advance for all your help. i look forward to much sharing of info and camaderie along the way...

i am so excited to start this new phase of adventure and fitness!

China was, and still is, world-renowned as the "Bicycle Kingdom." Seems like a great way to start, especially after so long. For me the "rebirth" of cycling is occurring right now in my college years.

I've been to China on a few occasions, but mostly on business in industrial areas... but to have the opportunity to ride bikes through villages, rice pads, and along mountain scenery over there must've been unreal! The old China will be fast disappearing and what you've experienced is just priceless...

Hmmm... now, I wonder if there are scenic/recreational mountain bike tours along the Great Wall?? :)
