Licensed racers (http://www.velonews.com/article/85769/bike-racing-is-growing-in-the-us-usac-says) in the USA.
18 million soccer players, and we still have a long way to go before we win the world cup.

In that case, we must ride together.

In 2008.
It looks like that is only the riders with USA cycling licenses. There are a bunch of other state and regional organizations (like Oregon Bike Racing Assoc). They ain't going to add up to 18 million though.

Last time I checked I was 950th in the USA out of 1471 35+ TT ranked riders. But I slipped off, a couple of my TTs never made it to the rankings in 2008 because of cancellation (High Point) and organizer incompetence (Sandy Hook). 645/1045 in the 45+ TT rankings. That's just amazing. How the F can anyone possibly be slower than me? I'll never quite grasp that.

All you have to do to remedy that is complete one TT that reports back to the USCF.
TTs rock. It is a safe way for older cyclists to compete, no real crash danger, no getting dropped, etc. I like it.
Now if I could only get my friggin TT bike to fit me, I'd have something.

In my opinion, there is no real crash danger in a TT. Not for me at any rate. I don't know about anybody else.

Huh. This whole time I thought he just given it it his all and laid down at the finish.

Go to a triathlon and camp out in the first corner with beer and chips. The dentists just pile up their p4s one after another.

I expected about 20-30% less. Membership has really increased in recent years. I wonder how many of those license holders race 10+ times each season?

Probably a lot less. The sport is growing, but that group is still a niche.
