Road Bike Racing - Quickstep in GW

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As was predicted Boonen first over the line. Quickstep went at it and had 6 guys in the final group Two gave wheels to Boonan.
George 4th alone at the finish...

I felt bad for George. How in the F is one guy supposed to compete against that Quickstep train?
Just watched the final km's of G-W. Impressive riding by Lefevre's posse! But they did not really bring Tom Boonen to the sprint. Apart from Johan Museeuw, all the other QSteppers dropped off before the final km.
Jan Kirsipuu was probably too tired from bridging the gap to the front group and couldn't follow Boonen's (powerful!) accelleration. The other contenders didn't really seem to bother either. A very lonesome photo finish for Boonen. :D

I hear you, Laggard. It's tough being on the outside of the blue train, huh?
But a great win for Boonen today! And Maggie Backstedt knocks my socks off.
George is waiting for Sunday!

Jeez. I hope you don't mean this Sunday. I think Quick.Step's still got plans. ;)

Boonen is pretty amazing. Just 23! Yikes!
Sunday should be good! Wish I were going to be home to watch it.

And props to Roger Hammond for staying in the break, even if he didn't place.
Quick step may have plans for sunday but I don't think
they are gonna pan out.
Look for CSC to try to dominate again.
if Hincapie and Van Heeswijk hook up they
could make a good showing (it could happen).
And Vandenbrouke is always available to be the spoiler (and is really hungry, no?).
Quickstep will be there, but it won't be a walk in the park (ardennes?).

Has a swede ever won GW? I was wondering if Backstedt would have been the first, had he won.
Yep. The Big Dog would have been the first Swede to win Ghent-Wevelgem.
Here's a list (http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2004/springclassics04/wevelgem04/) of past winners, courtesy of cyclingnews.
