Hey guys,

I just wanted to see what most of you thought about my idea. I purchased one of the 2007 Kona Coiler frames with 150mm travel. I allready own a 130mm marzocchi Drop Off 1 and was thinking of running that on this frame. This bike will used mainly for freeriding with some moderate drops and the occasional jumps. The local bike shop, not where I bought the bike, said that they think it will be a great setup for my style of riding. They said that you need to try and stay within an inch difference up or down for the fork and it is just personal choice. It would ~5.1" in front and ~5.9" in the rear. Please just give me some feedback on this. Thanks

You might as well try it if you already have the fork.

And a lot of marzocchis have a long axle to crow anyways.

The difference in travel front to back doesn't matter...on my DH bike, I have 7.5" in the front and 10" out back.

The key to your setup is the axle to crown height versus stock. The bike was designed around a 150mm Marz (I think) so with the Drop Off, the bike will feel steeper (potentially, depending on the A-to-C).

I had an 05 Coiler that I ran most of the time with a Pike. It was great for most trail riding but the bike was more enjoyable at the resorts and shuttling with the much taller/longer travel 66 out front.

BTW, below are pics for comparison...trail mode and FR mode, the geometry difference should be pretty obvious (the two setups rode a lot differently):
