Training & Nutrition - Office Weight Loss Contest

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We are pre-planning our January office weight loss contest.
What we know right now is that we will run for one month (and then another in Feb, Mar, ...) winner on percent of loss and $5/head to participate. Winner takes all.
Does anyone have a set of rules that you may have used in the past for such a contest. I am trying to cover as many issues as possible to make sure everyone has fun. I know there are alot of things that we havent thought of.
Any help would be appreciated.
There's really no way to design rules other than "play fair." Since you're doing it every month though, it's not really an issue as the people who go on binge/extreme diets or those water shedding pills the first month won't really be able to do it again the second month. As long as it's just fun competition and everyone's getting healthier, and you only stand to lose 5 bucks each, it's no big deal.
You might want to look at the Clydesdales/Athenas weight loss challenge that's been going for almost 3 months now; the current week's thread should be near the top of the forum, for ideas on how to maintain a goals list for everyone and a tracking spreadsheet.

Drink a lot of water right before the weigh in.
:innocent:
That contest could lead to a lot of health problems if people take it a little too seriously. You might want to have everybody sign a waiver.
we had an office contest back in 2006. i smoked those fools and by the end of the year had discovered cycling, stopped drinking, and dropped 70 pounds. all by counting calories and eating healthy.
here were our guidelines:
This is a three month contest that ends with a final weigh-in on 4/4/05, first Tuesday in April. The bet is $50 per person with all proceeds going to the biggest percentage loser (lbs lost / starting weight). The monies will not be paid up until contest end. Also, the winner will keep the Biggest Loser Trophy, the digital scale. We all owe Jon $8 for the scale.
Each contestant should weigh-in once a week at the Office on the official Biggest Loser Scale. The scale will be kept at X's desk. It should be placed in the kitchen on the 3rd square from the water cooler. This spot is currently marked with a black taped ''X''. The result should be emailed by the three contestants. This is for motivational purposes only as we will have NO weekly winners.
Now for the Official Biggest Loser RULES: NO diet aids of any kind can be used. No fancy pills that make you skinny while watching TV. No cosmetic surgery of any kind. No Exlax to empty you out the night before the final weigh-in. You can use good old fashioned hard work to aid you and that is it. If you cheat the rest of us may never know, but the man upstairs and you will know and that is good enough for me.
Any questions, ask.
Let the weight loss begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!
later.
You might want to make sure that everyone is drinking lots, and getting all their vitamins and minerals. You might post a chart listing the daily recommended dose of vitamins and minerals to help inform and remind people.
