I actually like this running thing. I was looking at new shoes today. I watched a serious video on how to tie your shoes right.
How to tie your shoes right!?
I dropped the high school cross-country team today. How did that happen? Seriously. HTF did that happen?
This is my third time running in a year, and maybe my fifth time running in the last 4 years, and I immediately drop the high school cross country team.
This is getting out of hand.

I'm skipping the trainer class tonight so I can run and then watch the cavs. I even had my trainer in the car. Sorry Bill... Next week maybe I'll be ready.
and you probably dropped them because they are pacing for 20 miles
we'll need to go running sometime. preferrably near edgewater or mill creek reservation where I notice many a fine female runners.

Defo. I didn't know the hotties ran in the winter time.
And I talked to one of the guys in the back, he said it was just a 6 mile run. Wheras, I did 5 and I was running over roots and jumping over fallen trees.
I made sure to tell him that this is only my third time running.
I felt like such a BA.
Anyone see were I placed my hip boots?
Running is all about cardio endurance. If you can ride a century in a decent time you should be able to run a 10k in pretty good time too. I don't run now because of my knees, but I'm pretty fast when I run too. Similar muscle groups, similar cardio endurance, similar way of carrying your weight... Go figure tri geeks have a hard time with the swim.

Nah man; I'm not a distance rider. This running thing is hard for me to do. I'm entirely sore after a run.
Running is completely foreign to me, and I still have to slow down a walk every few miles.
This sport is hard.

i would disagree. now, what is pretty good for me may not be the same for you and vice versa, but i can ride a 5 hour century a lot easier then i can run a 21 minute 5k. then again, i ride more then i run so that is too be expected. later.

Scott, we were saving you a spot, then a "tri-chick" came..... :innocent:

I'm not going to go too far with this because I don't want to try and make the point that they are the same, because I don't believe they are, but I feel they are very similar. Nor do I feel being a good rider will make you a good runner or likewise the other way around. However, you should be respectable at the other if you are good at one. Also keep in mind a 21 min 5k run is a far cry from a 5 hr century. I used a 10k for a better example, however, I feel even that falls short. Perhaps a half marathon would be a better example. Also for short distances I think the disparity grows as form becomes more important than just simple endurance.

I ran a mile and a half today. I'm now crippled. I'm walking like a newborn deer.

Nah, I just like watching aham get all riled up about running and how hard it is to stamp out a 21 minute 5k.
He's getting shin splints just thinking about it, I'm sure.

I know. Newbie runner comes along a HS track team doing zone 2 base training, after cross season and before indoor track, and drills them into the ground via the "run walk technique". If those running guys were on a bike what might they be saying as they got passed by some muddy guy? Maybe, "poseur". :innocent:
As a former collegiate decathlete and HS track coach, take it easy Mitch. Running is harder on the body than riding. You can hurt yourself real good if you take your CV fitness and apply it to running without allowing the body to adjust to the weight bearing loads that running puts on the body. If you are serious about cross-training develop a plan that allows incremental increases in distance/time with recovery time for the body to mend.
