Tonight I decided to strip down my only working bike, my commuter - for its long overdue overhaul...
Stripped it down and realized just how bad the paint is looking... and found out why my pedaling was annoying - the bottom bracket is... well - quite shot and the headset seems, well, somewhat indexed - two more parts which had I known I would have ordered with the other parts - but I'll just get them from a LBS instead.
Anyway-
1) Re-spacing the rear drops down to 117-120mm for the new wheel I just built up - Sachs 3 spd around a Mavic MA3
2) Clean, strip and paint frame (probably just black with some special stickers under the clear coat) - I'll do the paint myself since this is my commuter/go everywhere ride and if it doesn't look perfect... well that's just perfect then.
3) Install new stem (dirt drop), handlebars (bell lap 46cm), new Brooks green B17 Champion Special, wider fenders and wider tires, new BB and new headset and put on the old parts - cranks, brakes, etc...
4) ride to work again.
I hope to get this done relatively quickly as... it is my only bike pretty much except for a project bike I've been working on for over a year now (quite slowly). Tomorrow I'll hopefully hop down to the bicycle school and pop out the headset parts with their tools.
Wish I had a digital camera to take photo's along the way, maybe I'll snap off a few regular ol' film shots... but it'll take forever to see them as I still have a backlog of about 50 rolls of film that need processing and, well - I just spent some money on parts obviously.
Thought I'd share, that is all!
