Has anyone seen those flower arrangements along the side of the road?
I thought those were supposed to be in graveyards.

I have Pete, they are becoming more common at the scene of accidents.
I can't make up my mind whether they act as a reminder that you are in an accident blackspot, or a distraction likely to cause accidents.
I saw one on a trail recently. Not the scene of an accident, but just a spot where the old guy used to like walking.
Post-Dianna, I think we are going a bit over the top when it comes to these flower arrangements.
In Maine they often have large red bows with them. Usually indicating a deceased motorist.
Accident fatality scene memorial markers are common and controversial (because of the distraction potential) in San Diego County. When SDCBC lost one of its venerable senior members last year at the hands of a distracted motorist, his friends created a roadside memorial using his helmet and some flowers. Our 300-bike memorial ride took us past the memorial, then to a parking lot overlooking it. Anything that reminds motorists of the dangers of driving and imparts a "be alert, be cautious, be courteous, be responsible" message may help.
Last year I was riding through Provence, France. In Provence, they marked the spot of a death with a human-like cut out(Human size) and a red X across the heart. Did it slow down the speeding motorists(primates). No.!
Not just flowers!
The bereived are also placing small plaques at the side of the road where accidents have happened.
I pass one all the time on my commute route.
Its where a young guy skidded on ice and his car smashed into the concrete parapet of a flyover bridge.
Just a small electro-plated cross with Paul engraved on it, (quiet touching).
I often stop and replace any flower tributes left there if they have blown away on windy days.
