Here's the deal. I notice whenever I am leaning into a turn or out of the saddle pulling on the handlebars my front end (don't know what part) makes a noise like metal is rubbing something. I have tried widening my brake pads, that didn't stop the noise so I know it isn't that. Could it be a hub or headset problem? I tried tightening the quick release thinking maybe the wheel got loose but that didn't do anything. I can flex my wheel quit a bit just by pushing it side to side. Any ideas?

It sounds like when you are putting a sideways force on pedals (pulling on the bars thus pushing on the pedals) you might be inducing chainrub on the front dérailleur. Noises seldom occur where they sound like they are coming from.

Cant be chain rub. If I am just coasting and start doing some leaning turns the noise comes.

TriDevil,

Did you check the rear wheel? I know this might sound strange, but noises from the back of the bike can resonate through the bike frame to make it seem like the noise is coming from the front.

If you are pretty sure the noise is coming from the handle bar area, and it's something similar to a creaking noise as you put stress on the handle bars, then:
Remove the stem from the steerer tube.
Clean and lube the portion of the stem that is inserted in the steerer tube.
Reinstall and stress all you want, the noise is gone!!

Problem solved, the nut around the presta valve was loose. No more noise!

Problem solved, the nut around the presta valve was loose. No more noise!Just take it off! Or take it off after you've pumped up the tire. Extra rotational weight, 'ya know.
