Bicycle Mechanics - Which repair stand...

is better? I am considering the Park Tool stand that folds, but I also see that Performance has a folding repair stand also by Spin Doctor (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/cboProfile.cfm?SKU=17770), and the Spin Doctor also comes with tools! I need to decide tonight and make my purchase tomorrow.

If someone has another recommendation and can tell me what's up with it, I'm more than willing to look around.

Park, I had bad luck with my spin doctor stand, plus the tools worn out quickly. Unless also for general bolts and screws and installing pedals, get a set of snap on or craftsman tools, they do wqork much better than the wrenches and screw drivers park or spin doctor provides, the only bike specific tools that I use when at work or at home are bb puller and cone wrenches, and chainbreaker, freewheel remover and tools to measure tension. Headset press, and chainwhip are homemade. The wrenches and screw drivers are quite weak from park and spin doctor. Also look into a good set of allen wrenches, which are long and don't have the bend, but has a knob, both metric and nonmetric. The ones with the bends can slip out of your hands and nail you in the face.(I'm sporting quite the black eye to prove that.)

But if you are going to use it alot get the PCS-1 not the PCS-9, its more stable
and for the money a better stand.

The Spin Doctor Pro stand is excellent in my opinion as is thier truing stand.

I too recommend the Park PCS-1. I debated getting the PCS-5 or something similar from the "pro" rank but decided to save the money. I haven't regretted it at all.

Yeah, the guy was recommending the PCS-5. I dunno... it seems like a lot, and I would like a stand that I can have a couple of settings for height, but can also fold up if necessary. I just don't have a lot more money to spare, which is why I was looking at something other than Park Tool. However, I wouldn't mind getting the PCS-1. Does it fold down to something I can slip under my bed?

Park--they're US made and you can get almost any spare part you might need.

Park, and if you dont like it, send me a note, the ladder hook in the basement works great, is out of the way, and hell, Ill pay the postage if you want to trade... :D

I just bought the pcs-9 today. Having nothing to compare it to I think it is very stable. If youre on a budget but still want a quality stand I would recommend it (well from the use ive gotten out of it so far:D). I tilted it it with my roadbike on there to see how far it would have to go before it would tip over, and unless you run into it i dont think it will tip over. but hey, what do i know? haha.

The PCS-1 can be folded and put under a bed as long as there is 6-7 inches clearance.

I reccomend the Park Race Professional (PRS 5). It has all the features you described. I use one in the shop for when a second stand is needed. It also is excellent to carry with you on the road.

Park stand is the way to go.

I've had my Wrench Force stand for over two years now, fits in the closet.

I've been playing with a couple of repair stands at my FBS. The one I'm really liking a lot is the Topeak stand.
