General Cycling Discussion - Tracking device for bicycle

Hi,
It is possible to install some very small, and not noticable tracking devide into the body of the bike ?
Something, to ensure that if the bike get stolen, the devide will lead me exatly to the thief of mine bike.
Someone told me its bull****, was like 6 months ago, but how else to track the thief?

look into a thing called APRS. It's a GPS based reporting system normally used with amateur radio, but it can be used with any radio system. If you use it with a HAM radio, you can get it set up so that you can go onto the internet, and in realtime track the position of your bike, or anything else you put a tracker on.

It's a pretty simple system, just a radio, a GPS unit, and a packet modem. Fitting it all into a bike frame might be tricky, but it could be done.

Surprised that Lojack or some other company does not offer a bike tracking unit/service at an affordable price. With modern electronics it should be possible.

I know they make kid trackers that are like a watch the kid wears and the mom has a hand held device to locate the kid I am sure alterations could be made to adapt the watch its just the range of the equipment I am not sure is strong enough

all sort of GPS trackers on the market... lojack has a motorcycle unit.. not sure if that would be usable on a bike or not, but likely could be run off a battery in a bag... get an underseat bag and put a battery in it and lowjack behind it, perhaps use the battery for a headlight too, no bad-guy would expect a gps behind the battery if there is a headlight up front.

well if the unit is small enough to fit in the frame, you can get batteries of any shape and size online. All you have to do is figgure out the voltage needed.

In-frame devide would be perfect, as it takes some time for thief to take the bike into parts.
Then something which would constalntly supply the batteries (of GPS) with power, let's say, never drop below 50% of the battery capacity. Like, batteries of light would be connected by inframe cable to the batteries of the GPS :D All rechargable. (and that light batteries would charge those inside the frame :lol: )
Or maybe those small GPS devices aren't eating much power, then just some megabattery would be fine, and once a year to change it, wouldn't be a problem.
Problem would be if the device fails to send any signal :D like, when they would hide the bike in some deep nuclear bunker.

Btw I also saw a locker which contains some chemicals (colors) which will paint the thief, but he eventually can still steal the bike.
But maybe it can be changed to put some H2SO4 to the locker ? :lol:
Or some high voltage shocker.
Or some device which will buzz me on the phone (or watch) when the locker is being opened (sort of silent alarm)
Or maybe, never leave the bike alone :D
