I know many people have removed the paint from aluminum frames without issue. Which is why I feel the need to ask you guys for some advice.
I stripped the paint off my aluminum frame. But the first(bottom) primer coat bonded so well to the frame is it's been a big pain in the ass to get off. I manage to get of everything on the plane areas (downtube, toptube, etc), but that first primer coat simply won't lift from the crevices in the ajoining welds all around the frame. I have used two different kinds of stippers, the brush-on gel kind and the aerosol spray.
The only thing I could think of was to leave the strippers work their way into the paint by leaving it for a long time on the spots (2 hours). And nothing, didn't even weaken the paint. (*note this is factory paint, this frame was not powdercoated)
I started used a steel wool pad (after Scotch-Brite did nothing) but I noticed it rubbing down the welds some, so I quickly stopped.
The two different kinds of remover I used were not Jasco nor airplane paint stripper. Could therein lie my problem? Are Jasco and airplane paint stripper in a different league of all other removers? Or could it be something else?
I've even been recommended to consider muriatic acid to remove everything off the metal.
Help me out guys, I know a lot of you have way more experience with this stuff than I do.
