Fifty Plus (50+) - Got myself a new (to me) bike hauler...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. ...a 2003 Chevy S-10 Pickup truck. Some of you may remember my carrying on about Toyota buying back my Tacoma. I missed having that little truck around for tasks like hauling bikes, garden supplies, household items (rarely), etc. So I guess that missing having a little truck around and not being deep in debt for the first time in over 30 years was more than I could handle and I bought this truck.

I had seen it on the dealer's lot on my way into work on Monday night and did some on-line research over night. On the way home in the morning I stopped to discuss that Vintage and make truck with my mechanic. He told me what to look for and assured me he had time to check it over for me if I desired. He also mentioned that he was proud of me for holding out as long as I did after loosing the Tacoma before actrively shopping for a replacement. That was the easy part, now to talk with my bride...the CFO of the family. She said "O.K. I knew you'ld be buying a truck soon, what took you so long?"

I'm now the proud owner of a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup truck with a regular cab and a short box complete with a plastic bed liner and a fiberglass cap. It's a 4.3 liter V-6 with only 31,000 miles on it. The color is Light Pewter Metallic, what ever that is. Kinda sorta silver I guess. I'm anxious to see it in the sunshine some day. This truck will handle all my short bikes and with a little imagination my long bikes will fit too. With so few miles on the odometer, I'm hoping this one will last me several, several years (or at least 'till it's paid off!). I also hope 2003 is recent enough to be one of the better quality American vehicles that I've been hearing so much about recently...time will tell.

Congratulations on the "new" truck, Cranky.

I've gotten accustomed to having a small truck and would feel lost without it.

With only 31K on it, it should last you a while.

Once you've owned a pick up truck it's surprising how many little hauling jobs you don't want to do with anything else. For example, I can get FREE compost from the town that I live in but I don't want to haul it in my Honda Element.
