Any opinions? Besides the Specialized crank as a negative and the lack of carbon rear stays on the Trek as it's negative I'm having a hard time choosing.

I recently bought a Sequoia Elite over the 1800C. I felt the Trek didn't have as smooth of a ride. I'd suggest you give them both a good test ride before you decide. I couldn't find a LBS with both but did the best I could to simulate the same conditions, tire pressure, etc. The Comp would have been perfect for me but was a little above my price range. I based my decision on the ride and frame with carbon/zerts stays and double butting. I think the frame is a little lighter than the 1800C. I can't say enough about the Sequoia ride. It rivals my full touring bike with 38c tires for smoothness. I'm happy with the 105s but thought I could upgrade later if I want to. Based on your "tourist" handle, the 3rd bottle bosses and front fork eyelets on the Sequoia may make a difference for you too. Good luck and post your decision!

I appreciate the advice. I have ridden them both (short time) and I got the impression you did. The Sequoia is butter. As far as the "Tourist" handle it's actually a nick name the was derived from a completely non biking related chain of events. But, that being said I am looking for comfort over performance in this situation.

I am considering the same choice and am interested in the components. Is there a significant difference between the 105 group and Ultegra?

I purchased 2 * 2003 Sequoia Elite. I've been really happy with them except for:

> seat reliability - coming apart on both bikes after 12 months, regular but not necessarily every day rider
> suspension seat post has come apart on one bike multiple times... need to replace it.
> wheels on 2003 Sequoia Elite (Rolf design Alex wheels or something...) no end of broken spokes - very unreliable wheel (and I'm 160lbs). This happened on both bikes - replaced with Mavic Cosmos and no problems.

Keep it in mind... I'm not unhappy (even after all these problems) but by the time I've replaced the wheels, saddle, seatpost there is not much left. They might have improved the 2004 specification bike but I've heard bad things about the Shimano R540 wheels....
